Re: Trion 20 vs. Sahara vs.Symetre 500

I think I've been swayed toward the SS700. Thanks to those who chimed in and apologies for veering off topic.

uljersey: I'm not too worried about the shorter foot. The rod it's intended for has a Tennessee handle. :D

Re: Trion 20 vs. Sahara vs.Symetre 500

I actually meant SS700. I'm undecided as to whether I should get a classic workhorse model that's still in production or something contemporary that feels a little more refined. I originally wanted an SS700 to pair with my 1980s era slider rod mainly for nostalgia's sake (it'd replace a long since d...

I'd love to pick up a couple Balsa Bulls. How does it compare to the Wood Sammy?

I have a Symetre 500 on my short list. How does its performance compare to the Daiwa SS 1300?

Re: light/finesse t-rig & finesse jig

DX742C is great with a 50-size reel, 8-12 lb fluoro to fish 3/16 up to 1/4 oz t-rigs and finesse jigs. Another rod often mentioned in the same breath for the same purpose is the Loomis MBR842C.

Re: What happens to..

There was an old TT thread discussing an ebay auction that featured a number of Bantam 100 prototypes. I think Reel Old Guy had the winning bid.

I wonder who originally owned the prototypes and why they decided to part with them.

Re: Anybody Else Tired of Rebranded Reels?

Absolutely accurate...even legendary tackle from Daiwa and Abu were not to be "brought up in discussion", whether to edify others or take away the gleam from Shimano products. Basically, I felt like the BFHP asked me to politely leave "if" I couldn't get my act together  ...the final straw wa...

Re: advantages of unsanded blanks?

i don't understand how an unsanded finish can have lighter weight than a sanded blank since sanding removes material, right? Maybe they mean a natural blank versus a sanded, painted blank? If that's the case, the sanded painted blank would weigh more. plus, if unsanded blanks have greater strength ...

Re: Plastic in reels

What plastic internal parts are you referring to? Stuff like the pinion yoke or levelwind gear as general examples? I'd want the levelwind gear to be plastic because you want it to break if a finger got caught, especially in larger heavy duty reels. The pinion yoke is fine made of plastic--not much ...

Re: Fuji Alconite Concept Prefix/Part Number (Gray Frame)?

The guides are definitely Alconite Concepts with gunmetal frame--all of my early-to-mid 2000s era Loomis rods in IMX have that guide style. My GLX rods from that era have SiC Concepts with lighter colored, shinier frames. Maybe the gunmetal frames were a Loomis only thing?
