Re: Smoothest Baitcast Reel
Don't buy the Quantum, absolute P.O.S. The Shimano will be your best bet TE or JDM D (ease of adjustment). The other options are throw away reels. The Patriarch being much better than the KVD, but not impressive. I used to use mostly Quantums, but will never own another. Amen to that. Get a Zillion...

Re: Smoothest Baitcast Reel
My TE is eight years old, scratched to hell and the thumb bar is sticking. If anyone has actually used that Pfluger or quantum let me know. Cabela's is selling the Pflueger at $99 for Black Friday that's half-price. The kvd is marked down to $159. I wouldn't mind paying more for the Shimano D ,I'd ...

Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
3/8-1/2 oz Jerkbaits using PE + Leader, I use the Phenix Crankbait X-10. It's rebound is strong and fast enough to sling a jerkbait the distances I like, yet its compliant enough to keep the hooks pinned using PE, it also makes subtle manipulations on good suspending jerkbaits like the MB vision ea...

Re: YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
For a long time I was using a G.Loomis JBR752C jerkbait rod, it was and still is fantastic but it did struggle a bit with the heavier 1/2oz jerkbaits, not on the retrieve but casting. So I found something that was close, the Cabelas 6'3" M-F XML casting rod, this was an older one no longer made, it...

YOUR favorite jerkbait stick
I see a lot of posts asking what the best jerkbait rod is, and obviously this is very subjective. I want to hear what rod you use for throwing 3/8 to 1/2 ounce jerkbaits is....especially fron those who have gone through several to find what you feel is the perfect stick. If you're using a custom ple...

Re: Having a heck of a time
I'm referring to all moderate fast cranking rods. Anyone have a medium powered moderate fast KLX? I'm sure not many have the 6'3 Dobyns yet, so you can refer to the 6'8s

Having a heck of a time
I need a dedicated stick to throw 1/2 ounce R2S Humbug minnows with. I have rods, but they all feel a little soft for these heavier jerks. They are also quite erratic, and I have good luck moving them rather fast. It may be a little silly, but I use these a ton, all seasons. Where I fish these has a...

Re: Tatula Knob Question
I've had to add spacers to all my reels that I put any of the Daiwa cork knobs on in order to get them to spin freely

Re: Okuma TCS rods?
I think are very nice looking rods and I dig the moderate fast actions. The hook keeper is in a poor location in my opinion, and at that price I would prefer alconite guide inserts. All that aside the deal breaker for me was Scott Martins name printed on the blank. Nothing against the guy, just don'...

Re: Recon 683, Pointer 78s, Big Smallies?
Caught this with a recon2 683ML. In this instance it was dangling off the fish off the edge of the pylon… the cranking rod was smacked on top for scale…rather messy predicament :D http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o521/mcyl81/null_zps9eb0698c.jpg http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o521/mcyl81/nu...

Old Kistler crankbait composite
Anyone know who supplied the blanks for these rods. I think there was only two composite models. They are the grey blanks with the red trim like the old graphite plus sticks

Re: Daiwa / Shimano spinning reels question
Thats nice to know. Thanks for the info. Just picked up a stradic fj 4000 for some light soft plastic work in shore. Very nice reel. Feels much more refined than the older stradics. Like churning warm butter smooth. CI4 with septum knobs. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8233/8425140511_4d59cc8a29_n.j...
