Re: 12lb co-poly or mono for Daiwa 2500 spinning
I don't think you're going to find any 12lb line that would fish comfortably on a 2500 sized spinning reel. Maybe do 15 or 20 pound spectra with a 12 pound leader?

Re: Rod Demographics... dominant hand or not?
Non-dominant hand. Even for the spinning rods. Just can't get used to it the other way around. Another benefit of doing it this way is I can wreck my left wrist while fishing and my right one while on the computer.

Re: when to throw swim jigs?
I bought a bunch over the winter thinking they'd be a great bait to throw when the spinnerbait isn't getting them to commit. Yesterday was one of those days. I tried two different swim jigs yesterday one with a curly tail and one with a swimbait trailer. Neither of them worked. I eventually decided ...

Re: steelhead Rod?
Fished with a guide that had a Sage SP 196. Not sure if that's the type of rod you guys use out there but it was an awesome rod. Balanced, light, responsive and effortless to cast with.

Re: I'm pretty sure Fluorocarbon is BS...
Here's a bit of anecdotal evidence. I'm flylining sardines for bonita with typical LMB gear and 10lb test mono. For the longest time, I couldn't catch a fish. Eventually I decide to retie and attach a few feet of 25lb flouro to the end of my 10lb test main line. After that, it was like I turned on a...

Re: Oh you Senko/stickbait users.. LOL
Dont take me too seriously, but im must poke fun at you Senko/stickbait users..\ So i played hooky from work yesterday with my boy and we spend 2 hours on a friends lake.. Most of my reels are apart being painted or tuned so i had to use my trust Stradic MGFB & St Croix spinning set up. My 2 boys w...

Re: Dobyns DX701 spinning
Congrats on the new rod! You won't be dissapointed.
For what it's worth, I have mine paired with a Stradic Ci4 2500. The reel is light but the larger size helps with casting distance and line management.

Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?
They discontinued the Sol, and their only good reels, the zillion, steez and fuego spinning are on the pricey side. Shimano has a lot more to offer in the mid-end price range and can also compete with Daiwa for the high-end stuff. Shimano gets my vote.

Re: Pixy vs Sol
Frankly, I rather have the Sol. I have a Sol with no upgrades and a Pixilla. My Sol can cast 1/4oz cranks and jerkbaits easily, holds a little bit more line and stands up to saltwater. The Pixilla's spool spins so fast, I can't reliably cast anything with it even when I've maxed out the brakes. I've...

Re: Dobyns DX701 spinning
It's an interesting rod. It's very crisp and feels more powerful than it is. It feels very fast when you're playing with it. I can cast further and more accurately with this than any other spinning rod. The tip will let you cast and work any bait from those tiny 1/16oz baits to 4" senkos. You really...

Re: favorite spinnerbait?
I have a ton of the Revenge Deep Runners. They've been pretty good to me. The Booyah blades are my cheaper alternative but they don't get used much anymore. If I want something bigger or more durable, I use the Terminator T-1 baits.

Re: Which Dobyns for Jerks/top water/shallow cranks?
Do yourself a favor and try the 704CB Glass. You'll never think the same way again. It's light and has a nice smooth action to compliment casting light baits and fighting fish on small hooks.rabbitass wrote:To me the Glass feels to bulky and heavy.....

ci4 Knob Replacement Options?
I don't really know where to look for this one. From the looks of it, I can replace the knob on my 2500 ci4 while still being able to keep the matching handle. Unfortunately, JapanTackle doesn't have any spinning reel parts for Shimano reels listed on their website. So if you guys don't mind sharing...

Re: Shimano Core Question
You can always use Spectra if line capacity is an issue. 30lb spectra with a small leader of 15# fluoro should get you 100 yards of line.
