Re: ah knots, Help me please

I use a double uni to a mono leader or a palomar to a snap. I never actually attach hooks or lures directly to braid.

Re: line expertise needed

I use mono with sufficient weight to get the bait down to where the fish are. There's not much difference between mono and braid and fluoro for an application like this. The reason for mono is that it's cheaper and it works. So when I lose some to a snag, I haven't lost much.

Re: Method to Straighten Crooked Rod?

Is it a bamboo rod? If it's graphite or fiberglass, you aren't going to be able to straighten it.

Re: Line on Reels 0n Airplanes ????

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#5 Here's the TSA's site containing today's list of restricted items. It's such a long and sometimes counterintuitive list that TSA is in a position of having to detect some items that most of us wouldn't think of as re...

What might the potential hazard be in carrying fishing line aboard?

Re: Line on Reels 0n Airplanes ????

It struck me as odd too. I fly frequently and am used to the routine. I just take my shoes off and put my pack on the conveyor and am perfectly willing to empty pockets on request. Usually I am careful about packing. This time I wasn't because I had a busy schedule. The list of forbidden objects tha...

Re: Circle hooks for panfish?

FishingElbow:

Thanks! I'll try those.

I also might try bending the standard aberdeen into a kind of kahle hook as recommended in this thread.

I really would like to minimize deep hooking fish. Some days I catch a lot of bluegills and there are always a few casualties.

Re: Line on Reels 0n Airplanes ????

Mhood: I just happened to have a couple of knives in my pocket. One was a small Swiss Army pen knife with a 2" blade that I always carry for utility purposes like cleaning my finger nails and opening packages. The other was a folding knife with a 3.5" blade that I carry while fishing. I just forgot ...

Re: Line on Reels 0n Airplanes ????

I think the issue was that there were more than 3 ounces of the sunscreen and I shouldn't have been carrying more than 3 ounces of liquid in my carry-on. I had packed my stuff such that I could go fishing for a while and then head to the airport. I forgot to put the sunscreen and the pocket knives i...

Re: Line on Reels 0n Airplanes ????

My recent experience has been that it's best to ask. Last time I flew a couple of weeks ago I boarded the plane with a couple of knives in my pocket, but the TSA confiscated my sunscreen.

Braid maintenance for spinning?

I am happily using Fireline 15# on a spinning reel. Is there anything I can do to prevent line twist related problems with it? Does the old trick of towing the line behind a moving boat work to remove twist?

Thanks.

Circle hooks for panfish?

I'm looking for circle hooks suitable for bluegill fishing. This would be similar in size to a #4 Aberdeen or smaller. If there is such a thing, I'd appreciate info on how to find it. Thanks!

Re: Gulp panfish bait fails fair tests

I also have the earthworm baits and will try them for trout and perhaps bluegills. It would be nice to have a compact, easy-to-carry, and effective substitute for live bait in some circumstances. From what I can gather, this bait is an extension of the old "enhancer" concept, where fish hold it long...

Re: Gulp panfish bait fails fair tests

shfishinsticks: Chartreuse is an excellent color for these waters. We also use chartreuse twister tails effectively without any bait on them. I've posted this in a couple of places and it seems odd that most of the responses I've gotten have been to tell me that I'm doing something wrong. I contend ...
