It's a 4kg drag. Waaaaayyyyyyy more than would ever be necessary. It's smooth as silk, too.zodiak311 wrote: Thanks! How much real world smooth drag would you say this reel has?

Re: What’s your 2019 Rod to have?
Either a St. Croix or Major Craft 610-7' medium regular. I don't really have a shallow cranking rod, but I have a nice 6.3 T3 with upgrades that would be perfect for it.

That fish looks like it's from Saturn or somewhere. Awesome shot! You should sell that to Jackall for a trout centered advertising campaign.

Re: I Can't Explain It
I've never used a cover craw, but I've definitely had days like that when flipping d bombs. Of course that's with a 1/2 oz or better weight, so it's not the same, but still. They'd hit it, pull it, I'd try setting the hook and nothing. Over and over. Very frustrating. Sharp flipping hook, fluoro lin...

Re: How many wraps for Alberto knot
Using 15-20 lb braid to8lb fluoro I wrap 4 up and 4 down and have never had a break at knot. Also this keeps knot size to a minimum when you have micro guides. This. I think I usually do 5 up, 5 dn. I'm gonna try doing the 9 ip, 3 dn, though. That's intriguing. I'll probably start with 6 or 7 up, 3 ...

Re: Alphas air stream custom
The trout rods load better to cast those lighter lures without whipping them. May be able to get more distance that way, seeing how the brakes have to be turned up to prevent the backlash from the whipping motion, which hinders distance more than normal because of the constant braking from the fixe...

Re: Lightest backing line
That makes sense. I'm about to peel off an entire 1516 spool of 20# fluoro and fill it 90% of the way with braid since I never cast with the rod it's on and the weight savings will really help with pitching. I lived with it for a year and have a few months before I use it again, but I'll definitely ...

Re: the dying breed of US made rods
For BFS, there's no USDM alternative. They don't sell the reels here, so why make the rods? I do really like St. Croix, even though I don't own any of their bass rods. I will before long. There's a Legend Tournament or two calling my name. IF I don't get another MS-X before they disappear...

Re: Alphas air stream custom
Cool. I love those Presso rods. It works great! More than enough line and casts for distance and accuracy with the 3.5g spoon and 1/32 jig+plastic I was using. The spoon liked the brakes at ~55% while the jighead needed 90-100%. Still casted just fine though, once I dialed it in. I've got some 2.8g ...

Re: Tict Ice Cube.....ester mono....equal crappie.
Yeah, that's probably why they don't have it. No way they're not thinking of expanding beyond the Area niche, though. Maybe if they use a different polymer or something it would work. Maybe use Polyethylene and just call it Ethylene. Or Polythene Pam for you Beatles fans. The 2.1# seems manageable e...

Re: Tict Ice Cube.....ester mono....equal crappie.
It's basically single carrier braid, so it has as much chance of fraying as any other monofilament. Despite my limited experience with it, the leader knot I use works very well and seems to maintain its strength and still sail through the guides. It's the same one I use for braid. Just double the li...
