Re: Maxima Braid Ultragreen 20 lbs ABS and FG knot test
Right. The labeled diameter is probably the thinnest cross section measured with a digital caliper. The braid is stretch and the line is now roughly rectangular. Let's say the stretched braid is 2x4x12 inch. The manufacturer labels it as 2 inch diameter, and Paulus averages it and say it's a 3 inch ...

Re: Maxima Braid Ultragreen 20 lbs ABS and FG knot test
Looks like I forgot to include FG knot strength of the Maxima 20 lbs braid in the first post.
FG knot is 23.21 and 23.90 for an average of 23.56 lbs = 80 % FG knot strength

Re: Maxima Braid Ultragreen 20 lbs ABS and FG knot test
For the FG knot test, a mono leader of higher ABS is always used to force the break on the braid. In most cases 30 lbs Suffix Superior monofilament whose ABS is 48 lbs is used to tie to braids that are labeled 20 lbs and under. On casual observation, the FG knot always break right at the last half h...

Re: Maxima Braid Ultragreen 20 lbs ABS and FG knot test
The density of water is 1g / cubic cm. The density of spectra is .97 g / cubic cm. So it floats. All of them. That means the Maximum density of any braid is .97 g/ cubic cm. But not all braids are woven that tight. I sent Paulus lots of line. Based on his measurement of diameter and my mass measurem...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
It seems only dark green is available 30 lbs and up. Paulus site is now offline. Look at the 360 tuna site. There's a post there and a .png file that has the image that you can zoom in. It has all the lines in one image. Might want to download that to your dropbox or something. No haven't done the o...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
I'm seeing .307 mm = .012 in for 30 lbs Power Pro and .330 mm for 30 lbs Power Pro Slick = .0129 in I'm also seeing that Tackle Warehouse list 30 lbs Asegai for sale. I tested and got the mass of super slick in 30 lbs to be 22 mg/ft and derived a diameter of .330 mm from it, an exact match to Paulus...

Maxima Braid Ultragreen 20 lbs ABS and FG knot test
The 20 lbs 8 strand Maxima Braid ABS came in at 30.45 and 28.25 lbs in two test for an average of 29.35 lbs. Line mass came in at 14mg/ft so the actual diameter is .0103 in VS the listed .009 in. The line S/W is closest to Spiderwire Ultracast 15 lbs. Same feel, same, diameter and breaking strength....

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Just got done testing the 16lbs bright green version. ABS(actual breaking strength-unknotted) is 23.75 lbs. FG knot strength is 18.80 lbs. Line diameter is .0096 in. Not much difference than the 18 lbs version which is expected.

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Thanks for that info. The size is interesting, as that’s actually between most brands 20-30lb sizes. I was thinking about trying some of the light green but wanted 30lb. Looks like they only make it up to 18lb, but if the diameter is bigger than stated I might try it. Don't let most manufacturer's ...

Re: Sunline Xplasma Asegai
Yumeya sent me a sample. I think he is a member on here. Only got about 22ft of line so I was able to do one ABS(actual breaking strength test), one FG knot test, and a Relix Knot(FG knot variation). I weight 10 ft of line and use the fix density of spectra to deduce the actual line diameter. Line i...

Re: Rod Weights
I’m surprised there aren’t any imx-pro weights up yet 3.95 oz for the 802 JWR C. Lighter than the older IMX but balances terribly with a market average 7 oz reel. IMX Pro 802C JWR.jpg GLX 844C.jpg The GLX 844C is 7ft, 4 inches longer but only .07 oz lighter but it balances much better on the 7.16 o...

Re: New fireline fused 8 carrier
Fished the 6lb on a steez sv tws and an aldebaran bfs Wow....I really dig this stuff on a baitcaster. You get the best of both worlds. Mono like behavior on the cast without the stickiness of thin braid but zero stretch and fantastic slack line sensitivity. Granted is not as smooth as Nanofil but i...

Re: Line Diameter true to spec?
The answer is probably ZERO in the USA market where braid generally overtest by a factor of 2 or more in the 10 lbs class. Even your measurement is suspect EVEN if your digital caliper is 100% correct. How do you measure the diameter of something that can be flatten? You can move your line in an out...
