Re: Spinning reel knob replacement
Originally I was swapping the Septone rubber knobs etc out for the Avail POM knobs. Some say they're too slippery but honestly they've been going well for about 4 to 6 years now without complaint. There is also a POM V2 knob which is a little more rounder. Super hard material so will never ever wear...

Re: VBS brake maintenance/issues encountered
Yep housing cracking is big I find with earlier reels - "Craggle" glue does the job at fixing it.

Re: Who custom paints reels?
It's such a wonderful idea to get reels repaired and repainted but it's a buyer beware issue too... Have seen quiet a few reels repainted with incorrect paints even when done by a "professional", the main issue is paint chips occurring too easily, and the surface coating of the aluminium alloy of th...

Re: They're back...
99.9% of corrosion problems are due to anglers not properly washing the reels after use in salt/brackish water. This exactly... You need to lift the salta way off the reel... Some of these wiping techniques do very little unless you wipe with a cloth multiple times and refresh it in between. It's l...

Re: They're back...
I'm finding that painting the entire interior surfaces of the frame and side plate with Lanolin grease and including the screw holes / bearing seats etc (TefGel is also a awesome product for dissimilar metal screw hole's) will help with corrosion mitigation especially the Magnesium reels. We get lot...

Re: Shimano SLX XT
It's a bit of a shame we didn't get the MGL here in Aus. Just wonder how many will pay the premium for the XT?
Painted exterior is a plus over the regular SLX though.

Never a dull laugh when I see those vids of a cinder block tied to the end of the line cast with the wind seeing the spool empty and praise to "Spool Speed Bearings"...

Jackall Pompadour (79mm)
Just wondering what others are doing with their larger Pompadour walking baits, when their rear treble rusts / wears out? The hook is attached via a stainless steel barbell (looped at both ends), one end to the hook loop for life and the other attached to the body via a through screw which allows it...

Re: Rod Balance
I don't have the luxury to travel to the states and buy off the shelf... Everything here in Australia is like 3 times the price plus extortionate amount of postage... A simple build usually would end up in the $400 plus post range. Would be nice to be able to walk on in, pick stuff up and build it o...

Re: Rod Balance
Buying off the rack rod's is a hard one with reels you've already got in your circulation... I mean it's easy to say build your own but in some economies like ours rods are just plain lunacy prise wise... Its a balance of "just enough" to me. Just enough balance near the wrist is needed for my perso...
