Shakey dropshot

If you were to have a dropshot with a shakey head as your weight, is that legal in a tourney situation?

I have heard of people doing this in tourneys on another post on here. Id say if its legal in your state then it is probably legal in the tourney. I know it is legal here in NY.

I think that unless it's specified in the tourney rules, they'll go by state law.

For example, some tourney organizers in SoCal have banned the use of "A-Rigs" although they are legal in the state, but they specify it loud and clear.

Why do you say that? Im a dedicated dropshot angler, but have never tried this technique - however the thought had crossed my mind.

question for those of you who use this technique. how do you know which hook set to use? a drop shot sweep, pressure hook set or a reel down and cross their eyes jig hook set?

Just a nice semi-slack pop set works with either one well. You can also save some guessing, after 3-4 fish you can usually tell which one they want on a given day and then go with a straight shakey head or drop shot. I have, however, had days where they'll alternate, or caught double (spotted bass LOVE this rig) or certain fish will eat both baits at once. Not sure how that works, but they do it.
