Jigs... by a mile. They are effective under all seasons, depths, conditions, etc.

My best lure for almost all freshwater species and numbers is a hand poured minnow/grub I rig on a 1/16-1/8 oz leadhead jig.

Image

I stay with 4 or 6# test line and a light action spinning or spincast rod. It blows away curl tail grubs and is more versatile - I've drop shot it, caught fish with it under a float, vertical jigged in 8' or more and cast into the wind and had days that 30 plus fish was not unusual.

Strange though - I've sent anglers the lure to compare along side their usual grub style lures and never get any feedback. The only report I got back was from a 70 y.o. gentleman I rent a boat from who loved it the first time he used it! Since he gives me a discount, I give him lures and jigs for free.

* note the wire from the line tie to the plastic. It holds soft plastics in place fish after caught fish.

Pop R for me, not because it's the best technique; because I fish with so much. Topwater lots of fun :D

Yamamoto Flappin Hawg...Jeez. I call it the meatball, it just bounces and hops up off the rocks. I texas rig it with a weight.Never been a color person, they all work. I love to work it slowly...BIG fish bait.

Senko. By far catch my most fish on this bait. Otherwise Texas rigged craw with a 1/4 oz weight.

For smallmouth, the Little John MD 50 is awesome. Casts mile with a tungsten weight transfer system, rattles but not loud (weight is coated with rubber). If there are fish around, the will bite.

i'm just curious. i'm losing faith with the soft stick baits. i've fished every imagineable way. tx rig, car rig, weightless, wacky none of them are producing.

i also fish around a lot of junk so crankbaits don't work out for me. I fish from the bank. no boat yet.

I'm still here dragon1! Good to see you're still around. :D

I can't believe it's been almost 9 years since I started this thread. At the time, I was just getting into bass fishing. Not much experience or patience. Man how time flies.

My favorite lures today:
-Jig n Pig
-Wacky Senko

Most productive would have to be the in line spinner. It'll catch everything that swims under many conditions. Funny how I don't use it as much anymore...currently though, the one lure I always have tied on for the shallow bass waters I fish is the Rapala Flat Rap, size 6 or 8. in shallow streams/rivers and over weeds, it's killer.

Senkos or Trick worms it really just comes down to how well you can line watch and your patience.
