Scent to use on Crappie

Post by B Col » Fri Mar 23, 2007 5:44 am

Need help. Went fishing for some crappie and I saw this guy pulling fish after fish and notice he had some kind of scent that he keeps putting down on his lure. Didn't get a chance to ask him what kind of scent he was using. Does anyone know what kind of scent he would be using to attract this kind of frenzie to his lure?

I've never heard of anyone using a scent for Crappie :-k Usually I just use a marabou jig. Me and the kids pull in so many of the darn things you lose interest in about 1/2 hour fishing. :P

There are a few companies that make a line of crappie/panfish scent. Berkley Power Bait makes a liquid attractant in eight oz. bottles. Dr. Juice's Super Juice also has a liquid panfish scent in eight oz. bottles.

Nitro has been making Crave Gravy for a few years now, and added a crappie line this year. It comes in four scents: cricket, minnow, natural, and worm. They are all in the BPS catalog.

The guy you saw could have also been using a general shad scented attractant. Yum LPT, Carolina Lunker Sauce, and Bang all work well.

In early January I started using Gulp Maggots for crappie.

I'll tip a small tube jig with one of the Gulp Maggots under a float and that seems to work really well. (Jig - Chart head with red and chart or black and chart tube)

I use berkley PowerBait Crappie Attractant and this stuff works. They bite and won't let go. I've been using this attractant for a couple years now, Wish I knew about it sooner.
