Oregon fishing help

Well I’m going to take a last minute vacation to Oregon with my wife and son. My vacation starts the 22nd this month. Any advice on where to fish in Oregon? Or maybe any guides you know of that have any open spots at the end of this month? I’m open to fishing for any species but was looking at steelhead, lake trout, etc. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Cal, I booked a trip for the 30th. Now I just have to decide whether to fish for smallmouth or sturgeon

We will be staying at Scamania Coves resort for the first 2 nights and then Corbett for the last 3 nights. It’s about 30 minutes from Portland

From Corbett you have the Columbia River. If you head East on I-84, there are numerous areas you can park and walk down to the river on the North side of the Hwy. Any spot between Multnomah Falls and the John Day river will hold good populations of smallmouth. You won't find much better smallie and walleye fishing in the State. A little further out, the Willamette River also has good smallie fishing, primarily between Oregon City and downtown Portland. Most of the lakes in that area are trout only lakes. There is a small set of ponds located in the City of Gresham, but I wouldn't waste my time fishing them unless you enjoy combat fishing.

Thanks for that information Hogsticker2. I’ve never caught a smallie before so I’m definitely going to try those areas out. I’m assuming a drop shot and some small swimbaits should work pretty well. Any other techniques I should try? Again I appreciate the help

You'll mostly be fishing chunk rock. Tubes and jigs, cranks, paddle tails are good - I also like to throw a light wacky rig (Flick Shake) and weightless plastics. Just make sure you start your journey past Multnomah Falls, not far from where you will be staying. It's going to be hard to see while traveling East, so you might want to drive up a little ways past the Dalles, turn around, and look for areas while traveling West.

Well I ended up catching my first couple smallies. The were both little 1 pounders but was still cool. I also caught about 5 or 6 Sturgeon. Overall a great trip. Thanks for the recommendation Cal, I would highly recommend Edward Chin with aaaexcursions. He was very knowledgeable and kept us on the fish all day.
