Best "dog-walk" topwater lure?

Post by GAMEOVER » Sat May 19, 2007 6:19 pm

So far ive found the LC Sammys to be the best for walking-the-dog but was curious if any of you fellow topwater junkys out there know of a better lure? I have some Dog-Xs which ive only used once but I feel I can work the Sammy so easy compared to anything ive tried. Now easy doesnt mean better necessarly but what are you guys using as your go-to lure for walking the doggy?

I like the Dog-X Jr. but usually end up walking a Sammy 65.

I dont if the sammy is the best i still like the Spook the best. You really need a moderate even fiberglass rod to really work a walk bait.

I'm with mhood. I like the Dog-X Jr. as well. Very easy to dog walk. It is a little on the small end though, but it catches a ton of fish.

For a true "Walk the dog" motion, the Sammys rule the roost. As far as putting fish in the boat, the older Excalibur Spittin Image Jr. is my #1. Hate to let the cat out of the bag for anyone else that covets these little gems, but I'm in a mushroom cloud laying mood.

Original Ichiban wooden...if you can find them.

Otherwise, for me, the Zara Spook walks easier than the LCs or even the Excaliburs.

Ichiban Minnow is the best hands down. Nothing even compares. :D

Marc you should try a gunnish 75 (gunfish in the US I think). For a finesse bait it beats the sammy 65 IMO. I thinks it casts further than a sammy on the same combo!
I have just purchased a trairao and this thing is nuts!! It make so muh noise it's unreal!!

Pick up a Lews Speed Pencil at Bass Pro shops and give it a try ....for $2.88. The thing works great. Nice colors and grerat action (looks very much like the Sammy). I know it's not a LC....but for less than $3.00..try one.

Maybe it is because I have a lot of experience using them, but no matter what brand of cigar-style lure I try, I always seem to favor the Spooks, and, especially lately, the Swayback Spooks. Again, it might be a familiarity thing, but I can work them on any rod, and I have caught my best fish on those things. They aren't as flashy, but they never seem to fail me.
