What Line for the Conquest 50S?
What Line for the Conquest 50S?
When they say shallow spool, they mean shallow spool! I have some 2/10 and 6/20 Power Pro and about every size Yozuri Soft comes in. What are ya'll using?

Re: What Line for the Conquest 50S?
I've had the same 10/2 Power Pro on my reel for over a year. I haven't had to respool yet. However, I did catch a big channel cat last week that took my line down to where I could see the spool.

I use 6lb Toray BAWO Polyamide.
Anything thicker and you don't get enough line on the spool.

Which brings me to my next question: How full is full on this spool? It has curved sides up to a flat edge about 1/16" tall. I filled to the flat edge but I'm afraid I got it a little too full because instead of filling out on the edges snug to the flat edge, it seems to have stacked the line a bit above the curved edge.

I've had great success and results using 8# FloroClear on my 51S and the good news is that the performance only ramps up as the line diameter grows smaller. You are correct LWC...fill to the flat edge...I always overfill just a bit and after a few re-ties it is just right.....gotta love the 51S ...it's a fun reel for sure!

When you have D.R. as a fishing buddy and neighbor (in Texas, a two hour drive is considered next door), is there any doubt my 50S will head his way for some of that voodoo that he do so very well.

4 pound test Tectan but don't use the 50S spool.
Re: What Line for the Conquest 50S?
Thor, I have a 50...are there any other differences between the 50 and 50S other than the spool and brake block?

Not that I can notice through visual inspection. Spool is obviously a shallow model. The brakes may be different but mine don't get used, never really gave it much thought. Good catch.
Re: What Line for the Conquest 50S?
Man, I don't know how you do that...must have the smartest thumb in the world. I hate to admit it but when I took the 50S down to the dock yesterday, I had to go with four brakes on...I'll back off them as I get used to this little jewel.Thor wrote:The brakes may be different but mine don't get used

You will get the hang of it quickly. Practice is all it takes. The narrow spools on the Conquest 50 and the Pixy make it even easier. I only hope that Avail makes their spools for the Conquest 50 available again, I need some spares. I have my buddy, Jun and Plat on the lookout.
Re: What Line for the Conquest 50S?
I don't know...at my age, I'd be happy to get the 50S down to the two brakes on everybody talks about. When D.R. gets the spool bearings in it, I might be shopping for a 6 brake 50S brake block so I can throw the thing.

Not a mechanical difference, but the handle is also not the forged one on the S series. I imagine that is what saves a bit of weight.
