megabass F4-610 GT3 Shiryu

Post by Redfisher18 » Tue Jul 24, 2007 1:47 pm

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on this rod, just need a little push. Are the Shiryu owners out there happy with the purchase? Plan on using it for all my crankbait work (shallow to deep).

I just spoke with Megabass USA. Rod is out of stock, but they are placing order with Japan tomorrow. Masaki told me the rod is not 100% fiberglass, but a graphite/fiberglass blend. Did they reinforce the vertical fibers with graphite?

Very good cranking stick. I'm glad I got it. I think Megabass is having a hard time with production. The last 3 rods I inquired about were not in stock, not even in stock for the Japanese vendors either. 2-4 week wait time on some rods.

Its the Greatest crank stick ive used for shallow and deeper DD22s and 200XTs. Yes its not 100% fiberglass. 8-) If you do a lot of cranking its a great rod and if you dont You will!

Fantastic rod. I went with the seven footer though. I have a Conquest 50 on top with a carbon ZPI handle. Its almost pornographic.

That wait time sounds normal. I never have called and heard they had a model in stock and only one so far I had the patience waiting for. I took a gamble twice on two models saying to myself if they had them in stock when I called id buy them but they didnt either time.

Its deffinatly a worthy stick and most would agree when I say its one of their best offerings. Not one bad review on it so far .

Just asking.. weight wise... how does it compare to the GLoomis Crankbait Series Rod, are they similar in weight or do they weigh less,

I had a chance to fiddle with the Phobos and it felt a little on the burly side of things

I have the Kistler Glass/Graphite crankbait rod and I am looking to add another crankbait rod. How does the Shiryu compare for those that have used both. I find the Kistler rod a bit too floppy/loose. I was almost looking for something a bit more stiff as it felt like I was missing hits. Would the Shiryu fit the bill or is it pretty loose as well?

Thank you

Jake

Jake: My Shiryu is far from "floppy/loose". I can't compare it to the Graphite Kistler as I only have LTAs but it's probably more stout than your Kistler. The handle and lower section are definitely stiff but the overall rod is compliant as a cr/bait-specific rod should be.

Btw, a 7' Kistler LTA Helium rod a fine cr/bait rod! I use mine for all treble hook baits.

Favorite cranking stick. Does it all. Paired it with a Chronarch Metanium XT (JPI). Had a 5 lber pull a treble straight on a Z-Crank, two weekends ago. Tough combo. Pulls like a truck, steers like a Mercedes.
