Fluke Rod

Post by anthony6377 » Mon Jul 30, 2007 10:14 pm

I've recently gotten into fishing flukes, and I've been doing so well with this technique that I've decided to dedicate a setup to them. I just purchased a Sol baitcaster which I will use for the reel, but I'm now left with the quandary of choosing a rod. Of the two rods I have considered thus far, I must admit that my consideration has been fueled solely by aesthetics (Abu Garcia Fantasista Yabai FCY-65L and Megabass Pagani F2-66Xp). While certainly important, I am more concerned with acquiring a rod that performs well for its intended purpose. I'm willing to dedicate a substantial amount of money to my purchase, so I am open to pretty much any suggestion. Thanks in advance!

anthony6377,
If you decide to buy the Fantasista, please post pictures of your Daiwa Sol mounted on that rod. I thought that such pair would look great when I first saw pictures of the Fantasista in a japanese website. Here, somebody posted pictures of a Fantasista with an orange Pixy on it. However, I had the impression that the reel and rod were not exactly the same color. I wonder if the Sol will match the Fantasista better (regarding colors) 8-)

I wouldn't choose a Pagani for your fluke rod. The one I fished was far too moderate to fish something like a fluke and I believe all the rods in that lineup share a similar taper - I could be wrong though.

Instead, I'd suggest something like one of the GT3 rods - probably the Hien Type S.

Daiko has a similarly rated rod in their Burroughs lineup or that Evergreen Steed would probably make a good fluke rod too.

So, maybe a Presso is the best match for a Fantasista?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys - keep them coming!

I'm doing some research into the Steed right now. It really has me intrigued. :D

Does anyone have any experience fishing flukes with the Gan Craft Dictator? Thoughts? Opinions?

While I'm at it, what about 'The Quad Twister,' also from the Crossfire lineup or 'The Cobra' from the Temujin lineup? The more and more I read, the more and more confused I become! :?
