Rod sensitivity Loomis vs Loomis

Post by backcast » Mon Sep 03, 2007 3:28 pm

Question for those who have used both of these rods...
How would you compare the sensitivity between the Loomis BCR rods and the GLX MBR series?

The BCR, hands down is the most sensitive of the two.

I ALSO AGREE THAT THE BCR SERIES ARE MORE SENSITIVE.I LIKE THE TAPERS / ACTIONS MORE AS WELL. I JUST CANT STAND THOSE GUIDES!

Yup, if the BCRs came with standard SICs I would have a couple too.

Ditto...I've used both a 843c GLX and a bcr853 GLX side by side and the bcr853 was definitely more sensitive, IMO. I have the bcr853c GLX paired with a Mg7 and it is my absolute favorite combo...I use it primarily for t-rigs ranging from 1/8 oz to 5/16 oz.

BCR's are way more sensitive, but a bit more brittle. I've had to expidite 4 of them so far this year. Last one broke while trolling a spinnerbait behind the boat with a 30lb thrust trollin motor. The 803's and 854's are great rods but BE CAREFUL with them.

Loomis definitely squeezed some more sensitivity out of the BCR's, but I don't notice a substantial difference.

I agree also, the BCR series wins hands down for sensitivity. I really don't mind the recoil guides, in fact, I kind of like them. You can't hurt the things. They do make a little more noise but I'll trade that for their strength any day. I don't use them for long distance casting so I don't know if they have any effect on casting distance or not.

Bcr. I like the guides. As far as I know they help with the sensitivity.

Pardon my ignorance guys but what's the difference between BCR and the other GLX designs? (I thought all GLX had Recoils?) And what allows the BCR to be more sensitive than other GLX designs?

Thanks,
UL

I believe the answer to your question is that MBR rods in the GLX series have conventional Fuji or similar type guides with high quality inserts. The BCR and possibly some other series of GLX rods have the recoil guides. Seems everyone either likes or strongly dislikes the recoil guides.

I think the similarity in the rods may mostly be that they both share GLX graphite and resin. However Loomis catalog states the BCR tapers are "much faster" and they say they have moved the power zone closer to the tip without adding weight.

My guess is the tapers, construction, and guides may all contribute to increased BCR sensitivity. I do wonder if these are more brittle than MBR rods.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense and helpful. I believe that the faster taper is the #1 reason for the increased sensitivity.
