sideplate on Scorpion 1000mg, plastic or mg?

Post by OhioChamp183 » Tue Sep 25, 2007 6:49 am

Is the sideplate on a 1000mg (external brake adjustment side) plastic or magnesium?
I'm pretty sure it's plastic. Just checking because I may be doing a paintjob on the sideplate (clearcoat comming off bad!), and need to know before I attempt it. 8-)

From the type of wear on my friend's, it looks like it's made of plastic... i think someone here would be able to confirm.

I think it's about time Shimano revamp the scorpion series to include HEG and some other new features found on the new Metanium Mg.

You too? I hate that the clearcoat is peeling.

It totally freakin sucks! :(

I take care of it ,(I'm a little anal about my equipment/boat) spend extra $ for upgraded spool bearings, upgraded drag washers, and a 4 ball bearing 85mm ZPI carbon fiber handle, to have it do this!!!

Not happy! I have another that's not doing it "yet". :?

Does anyone use a protective coating on their reels?

I have to change it on my Scorpion, not my fault and Shimano Japan did it w/o charge other than S&H.

And you are right, they are graphite, I could see it on my broken part.

Thanks! They're only $18.20 US funds, plus shipping. Not bad! 8-)
