JDM topwater rod

Post by Wachtel » Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:31 pm

I have a Revo STX and want to use it for topwater with a very nice rod :D

Any tips on a good rod (MB, EG or such) for lures up to 1 oz?

(I might put a Conquest 51 on it instead of the Revo and use that for other tasks).

Preferably a rod I can buy from JapanTackle or PLAT.

I baught my Elseil for Topwater up to 5/8th oz. For you I recommend the Diablo or Jabberwock Evo depending on your likes in a taper for this tactic.

What type of topwaters will you be throwing the most? Poppers, Walk-the-dog baits, Prop baits, Buzzbaits?

Do you like longer or shorter rods?

What can you spend? Lots want MB, EG, etc rods but the difference between there 300 and 500 dollar offerings is pretty drastic in a lot of cases.

Lures are mostly Heddon Spooks/Torpedoes and Rapala Skitters.

I use a 6' Berkley rod now but would like a longer (6' 6"?) with a bit softer tip.

Up to 400 dollars is OK, but the perfect rod would be worth the extra effort!

You shouldnt need to a rod that throws an ounce when throwing the baits you mentioned. I recommend the Megabass Evoluzion F4-65XDti Cyclone Evo.

I love my Torpedos as well but unlike you have a taste for longer rods so I went with the Elseil. I think just about every hardcore enthusiast on here has either the Cyclone Evo in which I recommened to you or the Elseil.

For dogwalking I like a 6ft rod like a EG Pantera, or a GC Slaughter. However, longer than 6'6 and throwing sizes your throwing .......
