Well he's definitely holding his bait to get a 'sling shot' effect
I'd hook myself.

Well...I thought I was on the right track to save up for a Z1016, but I suppose a few more Benjamins are gonna be required for this baby, eh? ](*,) :big grin:

Yes, five years ago we here advised Daiwa to do so.
But the drive unit of the levelwind mechanism they left the same - which was in large reels 50 years ago and moved to the reels with disengaging levelwind virtually unchanged... And this is basically and principally a mongrel technical solution here.
If they finally replaced it with a normal, proper design of levelwind mechanism's drive unit, I would probably have changed my rule and give for such reel much more than usual... Maybe even $250!

I reckon I'll be grabbin one too. But I'll wait for Yuki to weave his magic on it first. ;)

Nice work Daiwa for thinkin outside the square. =D>

Very cool, but what stops the line from rubbing on the bottom edge of the retractable hood when retrieving, or slipping back up into the wide part of the T during the retrieve?

Interesting concept. However, the price will likely be a deal killer for many.

There's a rod that drops down which is attached to the retractable "hood". This bar keeps the fishing line on the bottom of the T-shaped line guide during the retrieve.

Grewia- I did not realize that bar moved with the hood, I figured that it was like most other reels were the cross bar was stationary. Thank you

meh....before I even consider shelln out the cash,I wanna see the math. What advantages and by what margin.I mean how much longer a cast can you get with that feature? Is it needed? Its certainly not going to help you work the bait any better....too early to say but for now..to me,its a gimmick.
Lets see what they do with it in a few models down the road. And its ugly...
Props for the forward thinking though.

I talked to a Daiwa guy today at LBF - they are seriously considering bringing the T3 over. They'll know in a month. [-o<

Does this mean the the levelwind will center itself for the casting position or you still have to manually put it there?

It appears to just snap down and the line was centered. What happens if you close the hood and the line is angled to the side? Would it pinch rather than it sliding down to the notch instead?
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

the inside of the 't' section of the line guide is tapered on both sides towards the rounded bottom part. therefore, upon re-engaging the reel, the line slides down the taper to the rounded part of the guide.....
