Thanks SP,great find
I wonder what the difference is between the 2 displayed reels?
Probably gear ratio You can see one is clearly a 6.3:1
Rock on June,can't wait

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
I knew a guy years ago that would shoot under trees like that. Kind of a bow/slingshot thing. Hold the lure and load the rod, point and shoot... I've never tried it as I suspect I'll have a birds nest big enough for a stork.blakjack23 wrote:I skip my baitcaster all the time. But I've never seen someone grab the line like this guy is when he's doing it.
Anymore detailed info on what exactly he is doing?

I have seen that too, but with spinning gear. That is different than what this guy is doing though. This guy is holding the reel with his left hand, than grabbing some line above the reel(before the first guide) with his right hand and then somehow you see the bait rocket out.DougL58 wrote: I knew a guy years ago that would shoot under trees like that. I must find out exactly what he is doing!

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
Well after watching it a few more times. I think my eyes were playing tricks on me. I thought it looked like he was grabbing line right above the reel with his right hand, but I think he must have just been holding the bait close to the rod so it looked that that.
I guess it was just the old slingshot cast after all.

Well he's definitely holding his bait to get a 'sling shot' effectNitroman77 wrote:all hes doing is a low swing side arm cast..

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
There have been several reels in recent times that have allowed the line to spool off free from side to side. I don't remember that "T" shape in any past reels, but ABU had line guides that spread automatically when you free spooled the reel, and so did Arjon (ABU rival) of Sweden back in the 1950s. I can't help but wonder about the wear to line (or the hood) with that concept. Only time will tell... remember the "twitching bar"? How many of you are using that?overdose wrote:i can't believe how low it sits compared to the tdz... and the way line comes off that new line guide is ridiculous! daiwa is definately setting the bar again!

I like the new concept
But the price tag won't be pretty....

Well I have 6 bills set aside for this reel, and I'm hoping that will be enough.

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
This would be a reasonable guessQuitLookinAtMyItos wrote:Yep. I'll be getting that reel too......
I'm interested to see the price tag on it. I would bet anything it's going to hit the market at around $800 - $1000. The Z2020 runs about $650 - $750 depending on where you get it, so I'm sure Daiwa will probably try and squeeze out another $300 for the retractable hood thingie.
On that note, the reel is true innovation.
