Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
Hello from France,
I don't know if it is the right place in the forum, but some of you could be interested in this :

It looks like quite a novelty in baitcasting reels design. Just my two cents...
Bassingly yours

Anyone see him shoot that bait under the dock in that video? What kind of cast was he using? It went by fast so I couldn't tell, but it looked like he grabbed the line like he was flippin but then shot that bait out like a rocket.

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
I love the concept but lots of moving parts on that hood, wonder about durability.
Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
To blackjack23 : That's a pitching/skipping cast, very nicely executed indeed!
To bstuckey : yes, only time will answer about durability. In another way, this hood/bar system remind me the system used in spinning reels, which is quite robust nowadays.

I skip my baitcaster all the time. But I've never seen someone grab the line like this guy is when he's doing it.
Anymore detailed info on what exactly he is doing?

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
I'm sure that Daiwa has done their homework on this but the concept is so different and I'm very hesitant to be a guinea pig when it comes to anything, heck... I'm not sure if this internet thing will continue or if it's just a passing fad!SP wrote:To blackjack23 : That's a pitching/skipping cast, very nicely executed indeed!

I wasn't really paying attention to that, but I have seen guys do that with spinning tackle and crappie jigs. You just pull it back kind of like a rubber band effect.blakjack23 wrote:Anyone see him shoot that bait under the dock in that video? What kind of cast was he using? I probably wouldn't want to try it if you just spooled up with Tatsu!!

That's a sweet skip cast. I gotta learn how to do that.....
Oh yea, and the reel was pretty sweet too.

Re: Daiwa - Brand new reel concept?
Yep. I'll be getting that reel too......
I'm interested to see the price tag on it. I would bet anything it's going to hit the market at around $800 - $1000. The Z2020 runs about $650 - $750 depending on where you get it, so I'm sure Daiwa will probably try and squeeze out another $300 for the retractable hood thingie.
On that note, the reel is true innovation.
