Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
I am looking for a rod to throw/pitch jigs (3/8 - 3/4oz), larger t rigs, hard/soft swimbaits (1/2oz - 2oz), and possibly larger wake baits in the 1-2oz range. From what I am reading so far it seems that the Power Versatile may be able to do all of this due to its more moderate action. If anyone here is familiar with this rod and its capabilities, I'd like to hear from you.
I am waiting on some feedback from Gary and I am itching to pull the trigger on my first Megabass rod. If you think there is another MB rod that is more suitable I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
I own the Power Versatile and although I never pitch jigs (living in the UK that is simply not an suitable technique for the fish we have) I can certainly say it is perfect for both swimbaits, wakebaits and big bladed spinnerbaits.
I have my Power Versatile paired with a Conquest 201 reel and dearly love this combo

Re: Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
Do you use any sort of slow moving baits that you work on the bottom? I was also wondering about the handle of the rod, its weight, and the # of guides. Does it feel more like a baitcaster or a heavier bulkier swimbait rod?
Re: Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
I have it also and it works good for pitching jigs as well as Swimbaits. It is very versatile as are most megabass rods. You will need a heavier reel to balance it out. I am currently savings pennies to get a z2020 for mine. Gary has one on a SRD that feels great.
Re: Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
I just got my PV and found it balances well with a zillion or Z200. I'm using my for swimbaits and larger topwater with the Z200. If I were to use it for bottom contact, I think I would use some variance of the zillion.
Re: Megabass Black Jungle Power Versatile
The power versatile shows lure weight of 3/8-4oz. For those that own one, what would you say is the sweet spot for lure weight when casting.
Thanks
Thanks

Don't have a ton of time on mine...
But 3/8 is fine on it. Just so I could fish it more I was using a 3/16th shaky head with a 4" tube and it handled it fine.
Baby wake (2oz or so I think) is really nice on the rod. Tossed a hudd 68 rof 12 is pretty sweet. Didnt catch any fish on it so not sure about setting the hook. 3oz would be about my max for the rod but haven't tried a 4oz lure on it as I have a few other rods for that.
Hope that helps
Seems like a really sensitive stick. The guides seem way to big for me but other than that I have enjoyed fishing it.

That input was great! Truly amazing the weight range that this rod can handleBoondock wrote:Don't have a ton of time on mine...

Wonder if MB will build an XX version of this stick?

Yes. I run 55# Daiwa Samurai Braid paired up with a Z200HL the majority of the time. Frog fish bewaregoldrod wrote:Are you guys using braided line with the rod

I run 20lb fluoro as it is mostly used for light punching apps and swimbaits.

Yeah I am in an delima
I have a z20sh on it with the 1016 spool
i have the STR 2016 LE / D7
steez XBD Core MG7
All are the same length. Im now trying to differentiate dutys amongst them all.
I really havent casted the PV but my family esp my daughter loves it..
Its a rather hard group of rods to me to distinguish one from the other interms of strengths and weakness.

Guessing that's a 2014 spool, not a 1016 in the Z2020SH/Z200SH...goldrod wrote:Yeah I am in an delima

The LE 74H is more sensitive than the PV in my hands, and a fine heavy jig/t-rig rod.
The XBD Frog Rod can be used for frogs, jigs, t-rigs, etc.
The PV can do a lot of things - heavy cover frogs, swim baits, mag top water baits, etc. I tend to keep a larger moving bait of some sort on the PV if it's not heavy cover frog time. I'd keep a jig/worm on the 2016 74H Legend Elite and the XBD could be either a lighter cover frog/ribbit rod, handle paddle tails around the grass, larger swim jigs around grass, etc.
