Shimano 2014 Conquest
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
I was hoping Shimano (finally) addressed the back play issue, but apparently it still exists. That's a deal breaker for me.
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
I thought backplay was due solely to the AR bearing. Shimano has bigger stronger pins hence more back play. Am I missing something there?
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
So on the concern over retrieve ratio, The 200 would maintain that ratio better than the 100 would it not due to the higher line capacity and bigger spool?
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
If the they are using lines with the same diameter, than 200 would maintain the ratio better. Also, I looked at the maximum line retrieved for both reels on the Shimano Japan website and they are the same.bassm1n wrote:So on the concern over retrieve ratio, The 200 would maintain that ratio better than the 100 would it not due to the higher line capacity and bigger spool?
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
Just got my conquest 100. Is the adjustment dial on palm side supposed to click or not? Mine does not.

Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
Anyone using the 200 size? This is likely my next high end purchase so I would like to hear some feedback on it vs the 100 size for overall casting performance and cranking power. If the 300 size is here by spring then I may just go that route. I want a top-end bigger round reel for swimbaits and big spinnerbaits, etc.
FWIW, the Tackle Warehouse video on this reel is not that impressive. In my eyes, the "skipping gear feature", while unique; well, I've never heard of anyone having to crank through and break a level wind to get their stuck finger out, rather than just yanking their finger out? Also, X-Ship does not necessarily contribute to more cranking power, but rather smoothness under cranking load.
TIA

Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
I am using the 200 with 17LB Pline CXX for smaller swimbaits in the >3 oz range, and I am really enjoying it. Even though it has mediocre line capacity of such a thick line, I can still easily manage 40 yards cast with F6-72X4, plus the retrieve is very smooth and powerful. Granted my comment is a bit lacking in base, due to this being my first round reel I have owned. Funny enough about the "skipping gear feature" , that was one of the first feature I tested and the level wind crushed my finger before it skipped the gear lol, so I definitely don't recommend doing that.dragon1 wrote:Anyone using the 200 size? Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
Thanks for the update on line capacity...looks like the 300 is the way to go for my needs.
Such a fantastic reel for sure.

When my little girl was very young I had to dismantle and Alphas ITO around her finger once...quickest dismantle job ever.dragon1 wrote:Anyone using the 200 size? Yikes...young peeps, different story for sure. The biggest danger are hooks in body parts!Martin Lo wrote:When my little girl was very young I had to dismantle and Alphas ITO around her finger once...quickest dismantle job ever.dragon1 wrote:Anyone using the 200 size? You are going to love it.
Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
2.3.6" IPT at full spool + 4.8:1 MM gears, S palming side with "100" size diameter, taller/narrower spool...yeah all of the innovations aside the "uncrush my thumb from the level-wind" skip thingy - I am already very impressed with.
FWIW, I like reels in the 8oz range to balance out the minimalist 7'6" + custom rods I usually fish with and this one should be the best winding and maybe one of the best casting round reels I will have ever fished with.
Now, just waiting for the 300 size (hoping it will have a bait clicker/runner button).

Re: Shimano 2014 Conquest
Any idea yet how the dimensions of that spool compare to the spool in the 200D? I got to play with the conquest for a bit but didn't have a 200D to compare it to. Spool does look closer to the 200D than the old TE or CQ.
