Conquest 100 - Amazing

Post by Bassmar » Sat Aug 02, 2014 4:59 pm

Got to use the 14 Conquest over the past 4 days. The reel got a good workout casting cranks (mostly 3 and 5 XD's) and caught about 30 smallies up to 5.5 pounds. What a reel. Absolutely amazing. Casts like a dream and the word smooth does not even begin to describe the retrieve. I alternated this reel with a D5 and now the retrieve feel of the D5 feels positively rough. I have 6 Calais and the Conquest's retrieve is way smoother. Never thought that was possible. The drag got a good workout and is also smooth as silk. This reel has now replaced the 100A's as my favourite. Got to get another. :D

I am not at all surprised by your findings. It was the only reel at ICast that I did not want to put down. It is AWESOME!!!! =D>

I know exactly what you’re saying, I own two 101’s if they made it in another gear ratio I would own at least two more. Can’t say enough about these new Conquests.

C'Mon now, that's crazy talk.
Good to hear this, one of these are definitely in my future at some point. And hopefully shimano brings the 300 & 400 sizes sooner rather than later.

It even sounds crazy to me. Believe me this reel feels as if it DOES'NT have gears. Maybe those crafty Shimano engineers have come up with a secret gearless system. Micromodule all the way. =D>
As has been said so often before. The problem with buying the best is that all the rest then feels like junk. :( Welcome to TT. :D

Good to hear. Still haven't pulled the trigger on a 14 Conquest. Have you compared it to the old model?

The 14 is in a different league with the micro gearing. The old one was "smooth", the new 14 is "slick" (for lack of a better word) - think of a hardwood floor compared to a sheet of ice).

I only have a Calcutta 100DC to compare it to. The new Conquest is smoother. And for me its casting distance is comparable to the DC. However I have a feeling that I have never really harnessed the full potential of the DC reels.

What are the differences between the JDM 14 Conquest and the Conquest that will soon be available in the U.S.?

It is exactly the same as the JDM model, the same as the Metanium and Antares available in the US are the same as the JDM models.

I would hold off saying they are the same until they arrive, past experience has shown slight differences as an example stamped handles with less bearings.
