Reel for MB Diablo Stage III

Post by RRION » Tue Aug 26, 2014 7:33 pm

Hi all,

after 2 weeks with a Metanium MG7 I understood that it's not the right reel for this rod. It lacks on the power dept. especially with 1/2-3/4 spinner baits.

At the moment i'm interested in these two:
- Shimano 2012 Antares 5.6
- Abu Morrum ZX3601 MAG

Probably the new Metanium 6.2 would be perfect, but for heavy resistance lures probably i like more powerful reels \:D/

Can you help me choosing between the two?

Thanks

Thanks for your reply

I would prefer something lighter and newer than Antares DC ;)

@RRion i thought you were not crazy about the rod?
You warming up to it now?

As for reels- no question, the antares. A cheaper option would be to buy the slower gears for the met. Chronarch d5(5.1:1) will drop right in.

I still don't like it so much, but now i have it and must use it for something ](*,)

Finally i've decided for a Morrum, it is a little bit smaller and lighter and i always wanted to try a mag version of it. The IPT is not too slow for a 5.3, so here I am.

At the end I'll use this combo for big hardbaits and spinnerbaits, if Morrum will not satisfy me, i'll go sure for an Antares 5.6 ;)

I thought about it a lot, but the 70cm handle for 101 stopped me immediately

...now that you mention it...I never realized all 3 elites used shimano reels...

it might be blasphemy but I've always wondered what an Antares and an ARMS complete together would look like.

It ruins the rod.

Ah ok, is that in balance or in aesthetics?

Gotcha, sometimes I've wondered what Ito Engineering could do if they had both Shimano and Daiwa reels to modify.
I would love to see Yuki Ito's iterations of Antares, Conquests, Metaniums and Stellas.
