Conquest 50 vs Megabass Zonda 68
Conquest 50 vs Megabass Zonda 68
I just ordered a Majorcraft MS-X Limited BFS Rod and I am curious what reel would throw 1/8oz hardbaits better. I have a Conquest 50 with Avail Spool and I recently bought a Zonda 68 that I have not used yet. In fact, I have never used a Daiwa baitcaster so the cast control system on the Megabass is new to me. If the Megabass will out perform the Conquest 50, then I will get a shallow spool for it.

The CQ50 is a much more refined and smoother reel than the Zonda. I sold my 3 Zonda\Alpha-ito as i prefer my Pixy

I agree with everything you said about the CNQ50 and I even thought about selling the Zonda for those reasons but...........it is a Megabass so I have decided to keep it. Any idea which one casts lighter lures better with a shallow spool?cndbasshunter wrote:The CQ50 is a much more refined and smoother reel than the Zonda. 1/8 oz.....the Zonda 68 stock spool won't be efficient for that weight from my experience. I feel the sweet spot on that spool is 3/8 - 1/2 Oz. Even at 1/4 it's only ok.
Buy a Zonda BFS spool and get ready to have a smile on your face.

The stock CQ50/51 is nice with 1/4oz and up. I tried 1/8oz with a ML rod and it was a no go, the avail spool with bfs rod should make 1/8oz okay.

That avail spool should throw 1/8oz hardbaits. The stock zonda wont, like others have said, you will need the mb finesse spool.
Re: Conquest 50 vs Megabass Zonda 68
With the latest CQ 50/51 avail spool , I has no problem casting 1/12 oz with the appropriate rod. //T

I wanna hear about that Rod when it comes in!John G wrote:I just ordered a Majorcraft MS-X Limited BFS Rod and I am curious what reel would throw 1/8oz hardbaits better. I bought the MLC-67L/BF and I ordered it from Shimreels. I have been using a CR721IMX for my BFS duties so I am really looking forward to getting a rod made for really light lures.Jrob wrote: I wanna hear about that Rod when it comes in!

I had a Conquest 50 on a 6'5 Steez Fle-x-Lite. It looked great, I didn't really like it but I'm not very into the bfs thing. I currently have a Zonda 68 on a X7 Super Eiger and that is super nice setup. I have no problem throwing 1/8 oz shakeup head with robo worm on 8# suffix seige with the stock spool and Air Bearings. Not sure how they compare with upgraded spools because I never really saw the need to swap.
Re: Conquest 50 vs Megabass Zonda 68
The rod still isn't here yet. I bought from Shimreels on June 16 and I received 4 or 5 ebay notifications on my iPhone telling me that the item has shipped. Expected delivery is June 29 to July 14. This waiting sucks and it's my belief that the longer something is in transit, the better the chance of breakage.Jrob wrote: I wanna hear about that Rod when it comes in!

I have multiple conquest 50 reels. I have no problem throwing 1/8 ounce with 8# yozuri hybrid and the right rods with any of them. I also own two 50S reels that easily go under 1/8 oz, and can almost be spooled with 1/8 oz lures using 10# braid.

I can throw a bare 1/8 oz jig head with my 50's, using 8# yozuri, with most any rod I own. Of course distance depends on the rod. I currently have my 50's on the following rods - all are customs I built, and a few are technically spinning blankscndbasshunter wrote:what rod u using?craigrbns wrote:I have multiple conquest 50 reels. HM-MHXP842 - 7' popping rod rated 1/16 to 3/8
HM-MHXP903 - 7'6" popping rod rated 1/4 to 1/2 oz
Phenix UMBX-S700M - 7'6" drop shot rod rated 1/8 to 1/2
St Croix 5S610MLXF - 6'10" drop shot 1/8 to 1/2
All of the above and the 50 will launch a bare 1/8 oz jig head no problem. I can also throw the same jig head on true M power rods too, just dont get the distance, but the spool is under control.
I have two 50S (shallow specials) too. One mounted on a St Croix 5S70LF (7 ft rated 1/16 -1/4 oz) and I can easily control a bair 1/16 oz jig head with moderate distance. Add anything to the jig head and the combo will launch it.
