Conquest 50 vs 15 Conquest 100 HG

Post by Silas » Sun Jul 12, 2015 2:37 am

I am ready to purchase my first Conquest. I have a Calcutta 50 and like the size of it.

For those of you who have the CQ 50 AND the new 15 CQ 100HG, besides the higher gear ratio, can you tell me:

Is the new 100 as small and palmable as the old 50?

Do they cast light lures about the same?

Which do you prefer and why?

Or should I just get a "tune up" on the old Calcutta 50 that I already have?

Hm.... It palms slightly larger but not by much. Both are awesome, if u don't have a CQ50 you need one. My favourite reel.

X2 on the palmability. The new 100 feels slightly larger than the old 50. Definitely smaller than the old 100. Casting wise the new 100 and old 50 are different machines in my opinion - especially 3/8 oz and below. 1/4 oz and down the 50 shines and is my go to reel for a weightless fluke. I can cast a weightless fluke with the new 100 (100 spooled with 12# yozuri and 8# yozuri on the 50), but cannot get near the distance and the 100 has to be dialed in perfectly. If sub 3/8 oz lures are in your future, I would def go with a CQ50.

Well, I just ordered the 100 from Digitaka for $367. Couldn't pass it up. They sent an email saying they had a few now

And of course in the TT way, I'll be looking for a CQ 50 at a good price.

Now I feel better. And, after all , I should be able to sell either one if I find they are not my cup of tea.

In fact, I may just put up a brand new Daiwa T3 1016SH-TW. GOT IT ABOUT 2 weeks ago, put line on it and put it back in box.

I think I have enough low profile reels and would like to expand my round reel section.

I promise youll love a 50 if buy one. Unfortunately Ive noticed they have increased in price a bit lately, but they are more than worth it! I have 2 50's and 2 50s reels. Wont part with any of them!

Well, I bit the bullet and after searching was able to pick up a 50S for $172. Used of course. And I'm not sure just how good the insides are.

My thinking was that I'd get the Shallow model for the spool and it would be easier to find a regular spool.

Does anyone know if a regular Calcutta 50 (which I have) spool will fit on the Conquest 50 S.

If not I'll just get the regular spool elsewhere because it would be nice to have 2 Spools.

At worst, if there is a problem with the reel I could send it out to be "tuned" or repaired.

Anything else I should consider?

I use my conquest 100 as a med-heavy duty reel and see no point in a finesse spool. There are many smaller and lighter reels for BFS mods.

X2. That's what 50 and 50s reels are for!

Avail actually is making a deeper spool for the 100 as well. More capacity and lighter than stock. :)

I find how adjustable SVS Infinity breaking system is to be quite nice for finesse applications. I also like the higher IPT Micromodule brass gears on the new ones. Plus the weight of the spool w.o breaking system is the same as the Cq 50 Avail spool. The Avail shallow spool for new Conquest seems to be much more versatile; you can even wrap it with 70 meters of .370mm line.
