Scorpion DC7 vs Exsence DC

Post by 665 almostevil » Thu Nov 12, 2015 9:22 pm

I am going to buy one. Need help on which one. I will use it to skip docks with and possibly frog with. Does one throw lighter baits better then the other? which one has a more aggressive brake control?

I have the exsence and didn't even consider the scorpion dc because it doesn't have the "whine."

I've got both and my scorpion DC definitely has the more aggressive braking. It's darn near unbacklashable. The drawback is that the distance really suffers. I've seen videos and read reports where these things cast super long but my particular reel isn't like that.

There are full reviews up on the site of both, I believe. The Scorp was essentially detailed as having DC as training wheels, erring on the side of safety instead of performance. I have an Exsence DC. One of my favourite reels, hands down. It skips like a champ on the Flouro setting with appropriate spool tension. I will say that it still requires skill, and that I could skip a non DC reel fairly proficiently before. It seems to have a wider range, from safe to wild if you can handle it. Just don't forget that you still need to control the cast when you turn it down after being on auto pilot in Dark mode. That setting lets you forget that you need to stop the spool when the bait hits the water at the end of a cast.

Don't let that Scorpion fool you. It's no slouch.

Has anyone tried to modify the Exsence and found it lacking? I am a car guy too. The modified model A vs. stock model B idea is one of the more annoying ones out there
I am sure that with the appropriate steps, and its chronarch D underpinnings, a modified Ex DC would be no slouch either.

The Exsence DC does not whine in the Special PE (night) mode.

At the very end of the cast when the lure hits the water you hear it for a split second
