What Shimano DC Next?

Post by robchik04 » Mon Nov 16, 2015 2:20 am

I'm looking for opinions on what DC reel casts the furthest.

Recently bought a Met DC XG. I used it primarily for pitching Senkos on the Cal Delta and love it for Medium to long distance pitching. LOVE IT. I feel I was always fairly accurate, but the DC braking system really help with wind bows and makes just an overall tidier pitch. I was not impressed by the long range casting ability. That being said, which is the best for long casts??? Exsence DC? Metanium Mg DC? I really want something I can wing a frog or lipless crank out with.

Opinions are most welcome!

Calais DC. Currently on sale at TW so possibly a replacement is on the horizon in Japan..

I only have used the Exscence DC. Likes it so much I bought a second. I believe the distance is quite good and the reel would be perfect for the apps you are looking at. Less costly and lighter in weight than the Calais DC even if it doesn't quite cast as far.

I know you are looking for a DC reel, but the latest shimano antares is an incredible long distance caster. Amazing.

I figured a popular response would be antares/calais. I owned a Calais 100a. Such a nice, refined reel. And the only i had any trouble big or small casting. The down shot is the body got so cold winter fishing. I hated it. First World Problems, right? :big grin:

The Shimano Conquest 100 DC is the longest caster I own. It isn't a looker, but functions 9+/10. If you are interested in trying one I can give you a pretty good deal. Decided round reels just aren't for me.

I have the Calais DC, Exsence DC and Calcutta DC. All have different generation DC units. I find the Calais to be the furthest caster.

I have the Calais DC and Exsence DC - both are great reels with great casting distance. I agree with Bassmar, the Calais will cast the furthest. I do not know if it is due to the upgraded/newer DC system, but I find that the Exsence is less prone to overruns than the Calais...
The Calais is heavier, holds more line (as far as I recall), yet, it is still amazingly versatile and will easily cast sub 1/4 oz lures.

I have a Exsence DC paired with a Dobyns 735 Champion rod as my frog set up. I works amazingly for frogs. The shape palms well for working fogs. Although it is heavy it balances well with the 735. The 8:1 ratio helps well with frogging. It will also serve double duty for a trap reel. Though if you use braid you'll need a more forgiving rod.

Would love some opinions from people that have used the last gen met DC and new model.

Debating on a met mg7dc or new hg DC...
