Nice looking set of rods Shimano is getting ready to launch. Add to that some sharp looking reel releases, and 2016 is shaping up to be a nice year for the Shimano fans! :big grin:

They eliminated the need for a braking plate inductor it self by using just the spool wall    This is actually insane.

Wow. Just when I honestly thought I was going to stick with my current line-up; Shimano goes and does something like this!

There is no scenario where I don't at least try one of these new 2016 reels.

Hopefully, well after you guys (or gals) try them all and point me to the best one:)

Yep, they wanted to keep the spool as light as possible by removing all extra brake parts. Hence the asymetrical porting. I wonder if they sourced the magnet brakes from zpi?

Avail microcast spool for Aldebaran uses similar braking system, it was shown in 2012 or 13.

The Aldebaran BFS XG spool. Notice the asymetrical porting. Perhaps the magnet braking system will be on the inside of the spool affecting the unported area. I just hope theres an external adjustment.
Yea, there's an external adjusting dial. I'm pretty surprised shimano went with avails mag system. Either way I'm a happy camper. Also think the audible drag clicker is pretty cool. Shimano is also releasing Lefty's before righty's for a first

Spool looks identical to the bfs xg limited spool, so subtract the brake block. Should weigh 7-8 grams.
