Pixy info

Post by Jdw2920 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 12:15 am

What advantage do each pixy have over each other. Looking at mybe a red for 275 mint needs gears upgraded or an orange for 165 then having it built to a
Pixilla. Would I be better off to buy a pixy 68 or maybe 68r.

You basically get everything already upgraded in a PXR. I have the Yellow 04, Airy Red, and the type r. For casting purposes the Airy Red is the best caster IMO. The Yellow 04 just looks bad a$$. And the PXR has the upgraded drag for better stopping power.

My Airy Red has the Carbontex pixy drag stack and upgraded ZPI bearings with the TDZ line guide, a swept Alphas drag star with the red accent ring and the silver TDZ I'ze handle with red RCS knobs.

My Yellow 04 has just the swept Alphas drag star with the black accent ring, HH Studios CCC in black, and a Tatula handle with Clear Cork Megabass knobs from my IP79.

My PXR has just a Tatula handle and red RCS knobs.

Pictures to come if I have time.

Thank you. I found a red one with similar upgrades just like to have different gears in it. Says it's 9 cosmetically and 10 mechanically

Installed Hedgehog Air BFS bearings and Carbontex drags. I added a red Hedgehog nut and retainer.

It also came with a Pixy CF handle with Red RCS knobs, and what looks to be an Aird Red Tune drag star. This is what it has done to it, what's a good price

Pixies are a tough sell right now because of the Alphas SV. I wouldn't pay more than $250-300 for it but that's me I think the Pixy platform is still worth it. Most Pixies on Ebay right now sit if they are too much over $200. There is a yellow pixy on Ebay right now that is selling for $250 that has been there for months. I know at one time I tried to sell my Airy Red and PXR for $250 and didn't get a bite. Glad they didn't sell!

The Alphas SV is not the same. Built on the Alphas/Sol platform. Only with the SV spool in it. A lightweight, air brake spool capable of casting light baits down to 1/8oz but able to handle heavier weight techniques also. The best part about them IMO is the spool capacity. Not deep like most standard spools, but not too shallow like the Pixy spools (which are meant to be for the finesse type baits/line). Currently, the Pixy line is discontinued while the resurgence of the Alphas/Sol line in the form of the of the Alphas SV. Arguably the best palming platform. Only the TDZ guys will say otherwise  .

I'm sure you know this, but the SPR has centrifugal breaking unlike the magnetic breaking in all of the other Pixies.

I guess I did and didn't at the same time. I was more focused on price and the fact that I can small crankbaits on it

That reel is designed exactly for what you are going to use it for.

I like the regular pixies (silver, orange, yellow and airy red) for small cranks due to the slower gears.
With the correct rod they do very well.
