Alphas SV105 reel foot finish

Post by Frosty » Sun May 01, 2016 1:01 pm

Anyone else having flaking paint on the Alphas reel foot? I just changed rods and noticed it...it has been on NRX 852 and 843. I had a Zillion 50th that did this and an IS 71 too...I guess I didn't look it over closely-I wasn't even aware the reel foot was painted :/

I have taken to putting tape over the reel foot ends. Just curious if others have experienced this...?

I haven't had any issues with mine yet thankfully.

Really common problem among reels.

Noticed the bottom part of the top foot is scratched on mine as well. Had it on a LTB 7'2MM for cranking for the past season. I was thinking this is because the reel seat has a little bit of metal on the LTB.

Either way, this is just cosmetic and on the back side - not going to let a scratch that you can't see bother me.

That's my point, why paint a part no one will ever see? They should either be unfinished like the old Zillion HSA or a tougher finish like the Steez has. A very minor complaint on a great reel- just always irks me about painted reel feet.

some reel seats on rods probably fit little different and end up being more abrasive on reel foot. i have used mine 4 different rods and no peeling or flaking of paint yet.

Nothing wrong with battle scars, anyway. I had paint chip off the palming plate of my zillion tws inexplicably the first time out, but whatever, it's no shelf queen. Got that out of the way and don't have to worry how it looks anymore. It's got character.

I just ordered on of these and I noticed it has two fewer bearings than the usdm version and weighs .1 Oz less, so I'm guessing it doesn't have any in the knobs like the ss sv, is that right?
