Poison Ultima 7'M or 6'10M
I am looking to buy an Ultima in the near future, and I'm looking at the 7' M and 6'10m. The main use will be a jerkbait rod and will also throw some topwater with it. Looking for something that is relatively moderate, but still has a very responsive tip to allow me to work the baits quickly. Would the 7' work for this? Most crankbait rods are to soft and bounce/flex to much when ripping fast, but the Ultima line seems to be a little faster than normal. The 6'10 also looks perfect, but is a fast action and worried it's not going to be moderate enough. Looks like the 6'10 seems to be way more versatile though? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would not spend that much money on a glass composite rod, so 6'10" for me.

I have the 6'6" i use for jerkbaits and i love it.

I had the 6'6" Ultima and loved it for pretty much anything in its weight range. Great jerkbait rod. I would go with the 6'10" if it were me. I feel it would be more versatile for you all around.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was not aware the 7' was a composite rod, that changes things. The 6'10 definitely seems more versatile, but I'm worried it won't have the flex I need to keep fish hooked up on small trebles. Seems they aren't as moderate as the Adrena and Glorious rods, and I really like the action of my 6'10 ML Adrena for jerkbaits. Been reading reviews(most are from this site ) and see where a few members have tried the 7' for other things than just cranks but there wasn't much feedback on how those lures worked with that rod. Might just go all in and buy both and find out for myself

That's the TT spirit. Post some reviews after you get a chance to fish both.JBcrankaddict wrote:Thanks for the replies guys. I was not aware the 7' was a composite rod, that changes things. Shimano's website says that the 170M Ultima is 89.4% carbon.

Not the same rod but I have been using the 610M Glorious for several months now. I definitely wouldn't call it moderate. Feels like a true fast until it's under load. No worries keeping them pinned on trebles. Have landed plenty of 4-5 pound fish without them getting unbuttoned. Very versatile stick you can use for many more apps than just moving baits though. Awesome for jerkbaits and smaller squarebills in light cover but it can do so much more! I love this stick and am having a hard time imagining how much better the ultima could be.

I have a poison Ultima 66M paired with a 2016 daiwa steez sv tw upgraded with hedgehog air bearings and a zpi shallow spool with 20 pound slick powerpro line. I just cannot say enough about it. It really is a great all around combo if you stay within the lure weight recommendation.

I have both but have never used them yet. Interesting comments.

New Poison Glorious series are so good, Ultima series probably are just one of the best rods on the Earth.
