Reel for x7 destroyer

Post by capesmallie » Sat Sep 10, 2016 8:15 pm

Looking for suggestions. I just picked up a x7 destruction and currently have a metanium mgl paired up with it but it is pretty out of balance. I know with the length of the rod it's not ever going to be perfect but wondering what other reels are out there. Would like to stay away from round reels

If it is tip heavy try a calais or antare on it.

I've got a JDream on mine, going to be about as good as it gets.

Here is mine for balance with a 12' Antares HG. Click the picture to see all of it, the forum is trimming. If you want it even further back you are better off adding weight to the butt of the rod than to the reel in my opinion.

Ya, if you want to truly improve the balance you will have to add weight to the butt of the rod to alter the fulcrum point and improve balance. Adding reel weight thru a heavier reel will have a negligable effect on improving balance and will basically add more weight in your hand while still holding a tip heavy rod- trust me and try for yourself. The problem i see on this rod is the handle length from the butt to the reel seat is too short for good balance. So adding butt weight is really the only solution. As a suggestion you could check out matagi brand balancer kits... They look decent.

I had a Zillion Type R on mine for a while and really liked the combo, now I have the Daiwa SV103XSL on there and am even happier with it 8-) Awesome rod, glad you were able to find one!

i found the same problem with my extreme mission, i have a daiwa px68 on it and feels awfully tip heavy. maybe looking for a reel that is between 6.5 and 8 ounces but can still handle the baits i have planned for it.

How would you rate this rod? I am looking at possibly getting one. I'd be using it for punching. Looking for a more moderate punch rod.

16 Antares DC on mine, and sometimes will fish a Monoblock on it as well. Both balance extremely well in my hands.
