This is the same reason some longer JDM rods are designed as "offset handles". The spigot is covered by the foregrip once the rod is assembled. Some people can't get their head around it.

Get yourself a bottle of this and follow the directions. You'll have zero issues with the ferrule joint.

The issue was not that of sticking, rather the OP not owning/seeing a spigot ferruled before this.
I have never owned a rod with an issue of sticking ferrules, as long as it was not opperator error. In fact , part of my yearly ritual is to wax my joints .

I wondered the same thing about my benkei, it looks strange. But after research and talking to digitaka it's built like that to keep the taper correct. Still looks strange
