Enthusiast tackle is a difficult category to define. The easier method of defining the category is price point. Then again, a $300 fishing reel or rod to one person might be beyond their budget and what they consider enthusiast while another person sees that product as a loaner reel or rod.

What's your ceiling?

$400 is the ceiling for me. That gear only gets used by me and is added to the arsenal only about 2 pieces a year or so.

Im not one to tell a company Ill spend whatever it takes to get me an item, so I voted $200. I also feel most things are overpriced to begin with and rarely will pay msrp.

I voted $400 as well. Over that puts you into the zone for me.

I'm perfectly fine in the $150-200 range of rods and reels, Any higher and I consider that treating myself but I will not waste my money on retail.

13-14k on 2016 fishing gear should define my modest enthusiasm. Every year isnt getting cheaper, either, Lol.

I consider myself an enthusiast when I find a gem I would have payed $400 for, but only pay $200. It's the hunt not the kill.

I've heard hookers do pretty nasty stuff for a quick cocaine fix.
That analogy would sum up my tackle addiction....I have no boundaries!

In the end to me it has to make you smile. Has to have a look and ultimately practical in my eyes. I say that as in most cases i have utilized my gear pretty steadily as i pretty much have leaned out to more enthusiast only gear in my stable. Some stuff may eventually go on a shelf but no real fun in tht for me. I baby the hell out of my set ups but they certainly have busted bass with other species fresh as well as light salt use. Always had fun switching combos around to try new or different stuff. I have held out on many reels abd rods but ultimately had to pay to play with some of my specimens. Believe me it is sweet to catch a deal but when in doubt pull the trigger if you can, or in my case often times live in regret when that choice piece comes along and you didn't unclinch to snatch it up. Haha long winded but I love the enthusiastic gear! It was a long road but the so called dark side is real but oh so fun! Hunt on gents!!

The hunt is the funnest part.

For me its not a price limit, it's whether I actually have the money at the time or not.

There are two ways to be enthusiast in my book.

1. Once a rod or reel crosses the $400 line, it is enthusiast to me just by pricing.
2. A rare or hard to source item that may not be over the $400 line. OG Pixy's, Deps Zillions, etc.

Anyone who spends $400 on a rod or reel might have a problem. I don't think it matters if it's JDM or USDM.

I agree I would have a problem deciding on only one $400 rod or reel. My problem is I have too many of each.

Theres no real ceiling if you look at something at know you just have to have it at first sight, specs and price unknown.

I'm still waiting on the counseling section of tackle tour!!
