And I would pay extra money...

But I cannot imagine that the drive gear is made of (dura)aluminium - because why should they anodize it black?
I saw an aluminum alloy "duralumin" part somewhere else on a reel... Not sure it was gears though... And it had a darker grey look to it, almost black you could say... Best way to tell, do a gentle tap against the material, should know then. Might still not tell the whole story, but at least a solid metal sound might make you feel better. PS Don't ding it.

Hmm, the Alphas Type-R had a similar black gear.

I seem to remember a reel in my past with black metal drive gears. CH50mg maybe?

I read on Japan tackle that the gear for the scorpion bfs were made of hyper tensile brass.

At the beginning I thought the drive gear were made of plastic (POM), but it is really a black anodized aluminium - maybe to make it more saltwaterresistant.

Strength added to aluminium and self lubricating.

How deep does the strengthening and self-lubricating go into the metal?
I'm asking because I want to know how long it will last.

Under a multitude of variables for longevity. More you lubricate it the better / longer it'll last.

Will only be in the microns thick - not even the coating on Stella main gears lasts forever...

My Silver Mica Pixy has a similar black gear made from what I assume is aluminum.
