This 500 size reel is perfect for us ice fishermen. However the price is too steep. Hrm..

Re: Soare CI4+, new 500 size shimano spin
would the 500 size be ideal for crappie and ice fishing??
Re: Soare CI4+, new 500 size shimano spin
Just ordered one to match with my 2017 Shimano Soare Ci4+ S408UL-S ajing rod. 2lbs fluorocarbon and 2-3lbs nano braid will be my lines of choice most likely.

Glad I bought a few Symetre 500’s , as well as a couple Sahara 500’s before they were gone .
I’m sure this is a nice reel, but priced out of my league . Gillchaser

Re: Soare CI4+, new 500 size shimano spin
I ordered one of these from Japan a couple days ago and have been scratching my head trying to figure out how much line the spool actually takes. The problem is I'm Norwegian so I'm used to having line capacity written out in mm (metric system) for the diameter of the line. F.ex. the capacity of a Nexave 1000FD is 0,18mm/170m.
I'm probably just confused, but isn't measuring the weight of the line in pounds a rather silly way to do this since different lines have different (lb or kg) strength even if the diameter is the same?
Anyway, my plan so far is to use sufix nanobraid (3.3kg/7lb/0.06mm). Could anyone have any experience using this reel tell me the actual line capacity of the spool in terms I understand?

The capacity is given as 140m of .3号 braid (Japanese line size). Japanese line size .3号 has a diameter of .09mm. I do not know what the spool capacity would be for .06mm diameter line.

Thank you Chris, that is helpful! Can't wait to take this reel up in the mountain and catch some trout

Re: Soare CI4+, new 500 size shimano spin
Got my reel a couple days ago and filled it with 100m Sufix Nanobraid 0.06mm line. Put some electrical tape on the spool (not sure if this was a good idea) first and the line was just enough to fill the spool. The capacity was a little less than I expected, although I can't imagine ever needing more than 100m line on this setup. Paired the reel with a Pezon & Michel Redoutable Sting rod (180m / 0,5-3,5g) and so far it feels like a perfect fit, very well balanced. The reel and rod together weighs just 220g I've been very busy at work, but managed to sneek in a couple of hours fishing in a nearby lake and caught 1 small trout the other night. Taking it up in the mountains tomorrow for a full weekend of non-stop trout fishing

I agree totally. I can't justify the price compared to what my Sahara 500's offer.gillchaser wrote:Glad I bought a few Symetre 500’s , as well as a couple Sahara 500’s before they were gone .

I just purchased this reel for ice fishing.
It kinda rings all bells for ice fishing, small, light, shallow spool, not called vanford LOL
A bit of overkill......maybe
