Saw that to says it has x protect and micro module gear 2
Re: 2018 Stella
Scared what the price will be. Hope it is still all metal construction, or I won't want one.

I would imagin that it’s all metal it doesn’t have the MGL rotor so I say it’s still all metal
Re: 2018 Stella
For a small fw reel...I'd hope they go lighter than what it has currently. As it makes a huge difference.Gloomis34 wrote:I would imagin that it’s all metal it doesn’t have the MGL rotor so I say it’s still all metal
Quite possibly the only thing they could do that would make it any better.
The way the rotor looks in the image looks pretty darn similar to what's out there...No need
Looks like my Fi's are safe............for now.....
But....it may be an early proto...depending on release date..i hope it is.
I remember playing with a tranx 300 about 8months ahead of release......Looked bad ass compared to the light silver and blue that came out at launch...then seeing pics of a curado 300 and 400 which ended up being bogus
Hoping it brings more to the table than ho hum micro module gearing. (look at a van stall if you want micro module gears in a spinning reel lol)

Re: 2018 Stella
lighter does not equal better.
ok, in some VERY specific situations, then maybe it does.
but in 90% of fishing situations, lighter reel doesn't mean better. In fact, with reels specifically, I want a well built all metal reel before a lighter reel...they simply last longer, and are more durable, as well as smooth after heavy use.
I find on this board MOST folks use casting gear, so their spinning gear gets little use...so these little feather light reels survive. Speak to someone who fishes spinning reels on a daily basis...You'll see all metal is the only way to go.

1-2%
Re: 2018 Stella
I guess my Stella FE's are still great reels. If Shimano had the Daiwa RCS spools the weight would go down a lot; but they are not metal.
The Vanquish and Excense are much lighter of course due to CI4+ rotors; not sure the Stella would go that route and weight wouldn't change much if not.

I'm not one of those guys who's spinning gear sits on the shelf until a drop shot comes out. I use them from popping for tuna, in the surf, plugging away in the rivers for steelhead and salmon and long range bank work.SteveSchmelzle wrote:lighter does not equal better.

Freshwater reels in the 3k size don't need the guts and rigidity that larger reels need though it is nice. And the long strand carbon composites are perfectly fine in keeping everything in proper allignment....And fancy plastic rotors are where it's at.
Take the weight out of the rotor and now all of a sudden when you begin turning the handle after a pause. There is zero start up inertia. Fishing the stella fi 3k side by side with a exsence 3000...the difference was very obvious.
Now who knows..if that reel in the photo uses a mg rotor that is core out on the back side......awesome.....but...for the price of admission. I'd hope they'd take what makes cheaper newer reels special....and include it in the flagship.
Re: 2018 Stella
One thing I thought would be cool is if Shimano made a might weight metal rotor with the MGL design.

Not beautiful enough to be a Stella. I was hoping for better aesthetics. Looks dark and boring.
Re: 2018 Stella
For the price tag that stellas carry that'd be nice..But look at the saltiga'sGloomis34 wrote:One thing I thought would be cool is if Shimano made a might weight metal rotor with the MGL design.
My little 4000 stands up to very abusive bluefish, stripers, false abacores........and it's fancy plastic rotor loves it
It's all in the arches.
