Steez SV TW1012SV-XH opinions

Post by njbasscat » Tue Jan 30, 2018 9:22 am

I just ordered a Steez SV TW1012SV-XH from Japan Tackle. I'm going to put it on a custom rod I'm having built. I will be throwing mainly jerkbaits, small poppers, and maybe some light plastics. I opted for this one because it has purple trim pieces that will match the rod, has smaller line capacity which will work well with 8lb fluoro, and comes stock with a 90mm handle. I hope the 8.1:1 gear ratio is not too fast for jerkbaits. If you are using one, how do you think it will handle the above lures.

It works fantastic for just about anything besides big baits (over 1.5oz). The speed is nice for all the applications you listed. You will not be disappointed.

Perfection bud. Killer reel with a killer spool. It's a 1/8 to 1/2 oz monster. I don't have the 8:1, but I have the 7:1 with the G1 1012SV spool. It's simply brilliant =D>

Great spool. I have one in a 6.3 Steez A and it transformed the reel for light lures up to 1/2 oz.

Is there a difference between the g1 1016sv and g1 1012sv aside from line capacity?

So there's two versions of the 1016. The Daiwa spool that comes with the reel, and the SLP-WORKS version. The SLP-WORKS version is lighter, and has more porting.
There is only one version of the G1 1012. It's the SLP-WORKS version, which comes with the 8:1 Steez.
Both SLP-WORKS spools are the same weight, 9 grams. Not sure how much the stock 1016 weighs.

Thanks sir. Didn't know there was only 1 1012SV. I really like the stock G1 1016 SV that comes in the Steez SV TW. The steez A spool was too deep for what I wanted to use it for so I'm looking at options. I'm looking at the RCS 1016SV or the ZPI NRC PG to put in a Stees Tw A. After adding a bearing they're pretty much the same price since the zPI comes /w one.

Performance between the 1012 and M / 1016 and PG are fairly similar at the end of the day. That being said, seems the Zpi spools have a little more getty up when the brakes are dialed down. Also requires a little more thumb.
I have two T3 platforms. One has the G1 1012SV, the other the Nrc001-m. I keep the brakes with the SV spool between 5 and 7. Zpi spool I keep them between 8 and 10.

What are the 8.1 gears made of? Hogsticker keeps telling us that he likes the Steez SV TW, but I'm only in if I get brass ;) .

According to the the hedgehog website, the 1016 spool that comes with the steez is 2 grams or so heavier than the the 1016 SLP and 1012 SLP, which weigh the same (approx 9 grams).
This makes the XH version the most interesting one imo.

Is the Steez SV TW better then the Steez SV?

If so whats the difference besides the wing?

Even better ergonomics and larger gears. There are other smaller differences but, those are the main 2 besides the T Wing. I cannot speak on the spool but, I guessing the SV TW has a better spool.

Thanks for the comments. I should have it by next week. I'll post my opinions later this season. I have a bunch of OG Steez 103's with SV 105 spools and like the way they palm and perform. From what I have read, the SV TW palms better and performs better so I'm excited to fish with one this season.

There are actually 2 versions of the G1 1016SV spool. The Zillion SV TW and the Steez SV TW. The latter has porting and therefore lighter. The Zillion G1 spool is probably one of the best budget spools, an excellent performer (I've weighed it at 12.19g with bearing on my scale).

I am under the impression that the SLP 1016SV spool is the same spool as the stock Steez SV TW spool.

In the link https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/product/3762 Hedgehog lists this spool as the stock Steez SV TW spool.
"* RCS 1016 SV Spool G1 Comes Already Equipped With 16 STEEZ SV TW "H And SH Models."

Furthermore, on the SLP website it lists the G1 1016SV spool as an original part for the Steez SV TW (If you translate the open ciricle it lists the spool as standard equipment).
http://slp-works.com/product_support/im ... -spl_2.pdf

So why does Hedgehog list 2 different weights for the SLP spool and the stock Steez SV TW spool? My guess is with the stock SV TW spool, Hedgehog weighed it with the bearing. With the SLP spool, Hedgehog just went off the weight given by SLP found here: http://slp-works.com/item/op_parts/rcsb_sv_s/index.html which shows 9g.
