Unboxing

Post by Sore Thumb » Sun Apr 08, 2018 3:09 am

Have just watched an unboxing clip on a new reel. Does anyone get anything worthwhile from these, or are they not worth the time.

Depends.

Good unboxings vs bad unboxings...

Good ones are slow and controlled with the presenter going over the reel (and the looks of it) and its actual attributes inc specs, christ bonus points for a mild strip down showing inside spool areas of BC and spin reels.

The poor unboxings are those that just waffle on about garbage and spins the handle fast and say "this is a sick reel" throughout the vid.

Ive seen a few on YouTube and most are just the latter - like boca spool bearing installation spool spin time vids, not worth a buck and pointlessly boring.

The silent vids some of the Japanese put out going over reels seem to be the better of the bunch imho.

Worst of the worst are where someone reads the back of the box, then its over. I would rather see spool weight, breakdowns, etc. anything that will give me insight of what to expect. I like a good first impression or week in test much better than opening the box, hold the reel, read the box nonsense. Anyone can hold the reel and read the box, most stores will let you do that.

Only unboxing I'm interested in are mine. Unboxing a new reel is ok, you know what you're getting. Used reels are the good and bad ones. :D

Watching someone open a box is like watching grass grow. Not worth my time in any way.
Going over the features of a product can be interesting and very worthwhile, but once again, the actual unboxing is stupid, IMO.

I love watching people open boxes. I also like walking into glass doors and watching paint dry.

If you want to see poor unboxing, check out THE REEL TEST. He will untighten the drag to its maximum, spin the handle, feel nothing else but the drag washers from the untightened drag, and tell you the gear inside his Shimano is super smooth. :laugh1: Same thing in every video lol

Unboxing is just not as interesting as it sounds- There is no gorgeous woman jumping out of the box or anything just some lame individual that thinks anyone would want to watch him taking a reel from a box. If you have seen more than one unboxing in your life seek professional help. ](*,)

Depends why you are watching the video. For buying JDM reels, they can be informative. Is there a reel cover? Is there an English version of the schematic? Does it ship with oil? A tool?
