I really like my PX68 SPR - smooth, refined, palms and casts great. Obviously, vs the Air Stream, the PX68 SPR holds more line and spool weight is higher. I like the PX68 SPR for lures weighing 4-7 grams and the Air Stream handles sub 4g lures more easily (recently I have been throwing 2-3g microspoons, great fun). Not saying that you cannot go below 4g with the SPR- just that there is a difference in ease and comfort of doing so.
I did not need the Air Stream Custom - but got it anyway because it looks good in pics (and real life). If you need a reason for buying it then the beauty of it and a desire to throw lighter lures would “”justify” the purchase imo.
Cheers Michael

Curious if the Alphas Air Stream has a “clicking” spool tension knob?

If my memory serves me correct: No

No Alphas variant has ever came stock with a clicking cc cap. Costraints of the design, I'm afraid, no room from it to the drag star collar.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I know that... key word being “variant”. this is a new and different variant.
So had to ask.

But I know someone working on a clicking cc spool tension knob for a pixy despite the constraint.

Guessing if he can get it to work on a pixy... it will work here too.

Ok, has anyone actually fished the Air Stream with a pixy spool in it? I have with two different spools (stock black / px68) and after fishing it a bit it just started to lose distance. I turned the brake dial to zero and it still acted like it had braking force applied... I took the side plate off and the spool wanted to come out with it. It’s like the brakes are stronger and want to keep the inductor pulled into the mag brake. I might find a beater pixy to rob the brakes out of it or try swapping the rotor spring for a stiffer one. Anyone else having trouble with this?

sounds like a magnet in the sideplate popped loose. Take the sideplate off and watch the ring magnets while you change the brake setting. If you see either magnet not staying with the plastic bit it's mounted to, then you know the glued failed and it needs to be re-glued.

I haven't heard of this happening on any of the newer reels, but it was pretty common with older TDZs etc. I had it happen on a T3 and a TD ito, but nothing else that I recall.

Thanks for chiming in Steve, I checked it and it’s seems to be good. Anyway I got tired of messing with it and frame / spool / mag brake swapped it with a Alphas Type F  The Air Stream frame / spool / mag brake with the Type F side plates is now a dedicated panfish / trout setup. It seems like the mag brakes do fine with the Air Stream spool...

A few after the swap pics. A little heads up for anyone wanting to do this, if you want to use the Air Stream drag star, you need to swap the drive shaft as well. It’s longer than a standard alphas / pixy drive shaft. I swapped all of the internals on both...

Not interested in the reel, but i'd buy this spool to use on my Pixy. Prefer a magnesium frame with magnesium handle side plate over an aluminum frame and plastic side plates.
