I've only read of Pixies being used for very light weight baits, are there anglers that use the Pixy for heavier duty applications such as mid-depth crankbaits, spinnerbaits or jigs? Just wondering...

Heavier use is what the Pixzilla is all about. I have one with a Sol drag stack that will completely lock down the drag mounted on a MB Destroyer 711, It's awesome.

Not quite the same but i use my PXTR for anything but finesse..

Would love to see a Pixy/Alphas with solid aluminum frame and strong brass gears. Tank strong, yet tiny reels are always interesting...

Alphas do have an aluminum frame and many have brass gears too. Alphas are my choice for small resistance bait reels. I don't like the way magnesium framed reels with aluminum gears feel and sound under load when they get old.

I will agree; especially with the SV spool, which is mean in an R-edition, and the ability to stuff older Alphas with PX Type R or SV105 parts. I think my Sol is more PXR than not at this point.

At one point Trey was happily frogging with his PX Type R, which is relevant to the topic.

I use baits up to 1/2 on mine. Love the pixy platform for walleye.

its easy to put alphas brass gears into a pixy as pixy and alphas gears are interchangeable, I have a pixy with 7.2:1 gears from a alphas sv

Please take note of this thread Daiwa. My SV105 sits on a ML rod for now, but was an awesome combo on a 7'Medium too with 12lb fluoro. Maybe slightly larger gears and or gearbox with a 6 and 8 speed offered would make this an all time status reel.

Can you fit the TD Zillion line guide on the SV105? Also no one ever mentions that the Alphas/SV105's line guide tracks with the line as drag is pulling...

The TDZ line guide will not fit the Alphas reels. It is too tall and would hit the top of the frame.

You can get a 6.8 gearset for the alphas. Ktf made a 8.1 gearset for them in their pixy when they were out. No the tdz guide wont fit without milling the top of the frame. The pixy line guide also tracks with the drag.

I pitch with 2 of my yellow pixys and cast keitech swimbaits with the other. No problems .

I just received my 1st Pixy ever last week, believe it or not. PX68 to be exact. I was hoping to use it for finesse and power finesse, but I don't think that's what best suits this reel. Casting a 3/32 oz wacky head with a smaller than average finesse worm, I couldn't turn the brake dial below 8 without more fluff than I like. Distance was respectable, but it simply can't hang with my Steez SV TW with Zpi Nrc001-m spool. Long story short, this will be my light top water reel, mostly right around a quarter ounce. To me, this is where this reel not only shines, but to be frank, it kinda blew my mind. I was sailing poppers into never never land. I own and have owned plenty of reels, and I don't recall a reel in stock form that would cast so far with such ease. Not anything that hasn't touched Ian or Bryan's hands anyways. Then again, all my other reels are SV, so perhaps I've forgotten what it's like to fish anything else from Daiwa

Lots of folks don't consider 1/4 oz. a light w8. Compare them at 1/8 oz.
