TDZ 103H vs TDZ Type R

Post by LgMouthGambler » Tue Sep 11, 2018 3:48 pm

I know they are the same gear ratio, but besides the inductor on the spool, are there any other major differences?

Dont worry. Eventually Ill get another Type R thats new in box for the display case, and Ill use the other one. Since there isnt much of a difference, Ill just use the regular model for now. Its a casting machine, I played with it during lunch at work today. 0.016 diameter mono was great, and I had to set the brakes a bit high to control the spool. Distance was easy to achieve, and the Type R spool may be a bit wild for it anyways.

I put a red Steez 103 spool in mine. Funny how the 103 spools handle better in non Steez reels.

The Type R and the Ito are essentially the same reels as well minus paint job and some frame porting. The R+ is a whole different animal.

exactly. Especially if you're using fluoro.

Isnt the R+ just a gear ratio change to the 5.7?

R+ is an inductor change and the gear ratio is 6.3:1. The original R I think is 6.3:1 and the Ito is 5.7:1. The R and Ito share the same inductor on the spool.

Every R+ that ive seen is a 5.7 gear ratio.

It depends on the retreive. Lefties get the ML version in the R+ which is 5.7:1. Righties get the H version which is the 6.3:1. The only lefties available with the H retrieve are the ugly ducks, the AOI, the TD-ito, and TD-Z Personal Orders. Righties get the H in the R, R+, and PO's while they get the 5.7:1 M model with the TD-ito.

I have a 103H Type R and a103H Type R+, they're 6.3:1. The spool make the R+ special. So the lefties didn't get the H versions, but they won in the end with the 7.1:1 upgrade.
