Most BFS rods I've used have been custom.

What size fish and any length preference? Also, what size lures? You got a reel in mind yet?

Probably my Volkey 65UL. It cast lightest weight baits I throw for bass and is similar enough to the Volkey 68L to fish a lot of the same baits as the 68L but with less power. That being said I use the 68L much more than the 65UL because I throw a lot of neds and 1/8 oz bitsy bugs and the 68L is the better rod for those baits. One BFS rod just isn't enough.

well i would say in the 6'2 - 6'6 range. and id like to throw give or take 1/8oz and below. id like to use it for small jig head rigs drop shot rigs. wacky jig head. basically mostly for finessing plastics.

Phenix K2 6'8 or 7'1 medium light. Preferably custom, but available production. Not a true bfs stick, but who wants to fish with a fairly wand anyways. I joke, I joke - But seriously, it casts and loads 1/16 oz jig with tiny plastic just fine. But unlike a fairy wand, it has enough power to fight, move and land a 6 lb smallie. Speaking from experience, and a damn good time it was.

If I did not have a budget, I would buy one of these. Heck, if I did not have a budget, I would buy all of these....

-Steez Racing Design STZ RD 681 ML
-Fenwick Supertechna TAV 64 CLB+J
-Desino Leben 610ML Tune by Kamara Spiral
-Sedition Bloody
-Shimano Poison Ultima 1610L BFS

These are all available on with various Japanese purveyors.

for only one it has to be the Bone Voyage 634L BFS , 6'3," 4 piece, in a nice padded neoprene bag. I choose the 4 piece as it can be taken anywhere , feels like a one piece and plenty of sensitivity, I have no problems casting 20 meters with a 1/8 jig head and 2.5 to 3 inch plastics. I have a SV Light limited on it.

what he said ^

the shimano poison glorious and ultima bfs rods were going to be my suggestions, but I forgot about those steez racing rods, and the megabass arms..

or you could go with a Shimano Conquest bfs reel with the shimano conquest 782 rod, that would be a sweet set up also

Well, you will not want a trout rod. They are usually more parabolic than the bass finesse rods.

The lists that everyone has made are really nice. They are really JDM and will require high shipping costs and possible import fees. A worthy consideration to the JDM rods. They do pop up on here every so often so, keep your eyes peeled.

My experience with BFS rods is with the Shimano Poison Ultima, Shimano Poison Glorious, Fenwick Golden Wing Tour Edition, Major Craft MSX Limited, Megabass Criffhanger and a Kirisami and the Shimano Expride. If I had to choose one out of all of the BFS rods that I have owned or still own, I honestly think that I would choose the one that was the cheapest and that would be my Shimano Expride 6’5” L BFS. It is plenty sensitive and it has a XF tip. I can throw anything from unweighted plastics to hardbaits with it. It also matches up well with anything from an 09 Aldebaran to a 16 Aldebaran BFS XG.

I think another reason that I would choose the Expride is because if you brake the tip, it won’t hurt near as much as it would if it was a $600 stick. I know what I’m talking about when I say that because I have a 6’2” Ultima and it’s missing a little bit more than an inch from the tip.

Thanks for all the insight into this topic. Im a big fan of poison glorious lineup and own a few of them so I always seem
To gravitate toward the Shimano stuff. It will most likely come down to a PG or an ultima lol
