ZPI Reel?

Post by Aquaftm45 » Mon Dec 24, 2018 9:22 am

I'm not talking Z-Pride, I'm talking full fledged manufacurer...possibly?

As of 1/1/19, they are no longer a reel tuning company. Yokohama Fishing Show just got interesting.

A little more snooping... They will be rolling out a fully manufacured, branded fishing reel in the near future. Time to refill the Yen jar.

Should be really interesting, just hope they aren't going for the cash grab and sourcing out manufacture like so many brands do now.
The following companies surprised me by releasing reels, but then the reviews came out and they were generally less than favorable or just budget reels to hold and advertising sticker:

Duckett
Fitzgerald
Favorite
many more I would have to look up names for

ZPI is a whole different class when it comes to performance though and at least they don't seem like the kind of company to do that so maybe something nice will come out.

There are more pics on the internet. It looks like a Doyo with Zpi parts. They're not using Daiwa or Shimano platforms... Looks similar to a Duckett from memory.

I'm going to be serious dissapointed if that is the case. They are one of the few with the capabilities to build a reel (I assume).

Let's hope for the best!

If they did it themselves it would be like $1000 a pop or something.
This is the way.

Looks like super tuned variants of the Revo 3 LTZ. I understand that K.Imae is a big fan of this reel so he and ZPI have given it a new lease of life. Given the complexity of reel manufacturing and the availability of established OEMs, there is no sense in starting reel manufacturing from scratch.

The body looks like an old style Fuego with the new style Daiwa handle and the brake plate side of a Korean reel. I'm more in the guts myself. ZPI has a reputation. Sometimes there are a few false starts on the way to ultimate success.

One would think a ZPI 9ffering would have some color and or flash. This thing looks so boring and underwhelming.

It looks like the new Bionic Plus casting reel shown in the 2019 BPS master catalog.
