Re: ZPI Reel?
I just hope the spools don't disappear, especially the M and PG. Hopefully this reel is just a foot in the door type of reel, to appeal to the masses. It doesn't even have an Zpi handle on it. I would imagine that higher end offerings will eventually follow, to appeal to the enthusiasts.
Re: ZPI Reel?
Looking at close ups. That's a Daiwa frame. TDZ type.

Re: ZPI Reel?
It most definitely is not. Shapes wrong, front plate is wrong, sideplates are wrong. It's from a Chinese or Korean OEM, most likely Doyo.Johnny A wrote:Looking at close ups. That's a Daiwa frame. TDZ type.
I like TD-Z's

Re: ZPI Reel?
I don’t see how they could have not used a pre-existing reel, the expense of tooling up to produce a 100% original reel must be astronomical. I just wish they had done something cooler like buying the old TDZ tooling from Daiwa.

ALCANCE MSRP ¥36,900
https://zpi.jp/products/201901-reel/
Also, google translate sent back this on a recent blog about the ZPI Alcance:
"DEBUT! ZPI 2019 ALCANCE REEL launches its own casting reel for the first time [Phase1]
ZPI has revealed some information about the Lure Magazine issue in February 2019, which is the first, which is not confidential. Only not the important content of the hoist, such as external materials, internal systems
This reel is different from the previous ones. This ALCANCE is a full model made out of ZPI directly, not the other hoists to make a new tuning. Is a Versatile type hoist, used at all levels, covering
Matt Black color, semi-body, compact body Arranged in a compact size Offset arm size 90mm. Magnetic damping system Supports the 12-16 pound cable, EVA round knob
Were rumored that Made in JAPAN too. This rumor has not been filtered."
That last statement could be a game-changer if true. Although my impression is still that it's Chinese or Korean OEM. Looks like a Lew's to me. Only time will tell.

Re: ZPI Reel?
The hood is totally Daiwa, possibly even Shimano. Here's ZPI, Daiwa and Abu:Teal101 wrote:It most definitely is not. Shapes wrong, front plate is wrong, sideplates are wrong. It's from a Chinese or Korean OEM, most likely Doyo.Johnny A wrote:Looking at close ups. That's a Daiwa frame. TDZ type.

Re: ZPI Reel?
It looks like crap. They really should have just did a decked out Revo for less then the coat of purchasing all the parts individually.

Re: ZPI Reel?
That is a Doyo reel with ZPI branding. The ZPI logo/release on the sideplate is identical to a Lew's or even a BPS reel. None for me, thanks.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: ZPI Reel?
I don't know, guys, I'm not seeing it. I don't think it has anything to do with the TDZ/Zillion, though.
This is the way.
Re: ZPI Reel?
I think it is made by the same company that makes Bass Pro Shops reels. Is it Doyo? Look up the new Bionic Plus reel. Looks the same to me.

Re: ZPI Reel?
Yep, Doyo (Korean OEM mfg'r.) makes BPS, Pfleuger, Browning, Abu, Lew's and another few lesser-known brands, too.joekaz wrote:I think it is made by the same company that makes Bass Pro Shops reels. Is it Doyo? Look up the new Bionic Plus reel. Looks the same to me.

Re: ZPI Reel?
The reel is Made in Korea, spool in Japan (Obviously). Confirmed by ZPI. No more speculation needed. Sorry to those that were hopeful..

Re: ZPI Reel?
I was pretty sure that was the case, that the spool was 100% ZPI, but specific to their reels. It lookspapabassin wrote:The reel is Made in Korea, spool in Japan (Obviously). Confirmed by ZPI. No more speculation needed. Sorry to those that were hopeful..
just like the new M and PG spools, except for that solid shaft.
