BFS Tsurinoya Dragon rod

Post by Edward78 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:43 am

Does anyone have this rod ? I'm looking for some info on the action and backbone. I'm looking for a moderate action ultralight BFS rod around 5' but not trying to spend to much. Any help would be great, thank you.

Good looking, good blank and i've never even heard of anyone having any problems with these. Love mine.

The Kuying is ugly as can be IMO mainly because of the handle, but it comes with Fuji components, which you do not get with the Tsurinoya Dragon rod.

Edit: just noticed that the Teton comes in a 5’ variant with standard cork! Much nicer...

I ended up getting this rod and the Dragon is very nice with a moderate to fast action and as much backbone as you would expect with a UL rod. I like the Kuying Teton series but their shorter rods are noddles.

I don’t see any Kuying spinning rods in the 5’/1.56m range. If it exists, I’ll buy it! :D

I've ordered one UL (6'3") and one L (6'6") Kuying Teton rod. How are Tsurinoya Dragon rods compared to the Kuying Teton rods?

Like I said earlier I have the 5' UL casting Dragon rod and the action it Moderate Fast kind of like the L 6'6 Teton but not a stiff because it is a UL of coarse. I have the Teton UL 6'3 as well and I do like it for 1/8oz and under cranks because its a moderate action, borderline noodle rod. The Dragon when it comes to power is right between the 2 model Tetons you mentioned and I for one really like it a lot. I have my Daiwa ASC on it for small stream fishing

The prices are so low for the Tsurinoya Dragon rods ($40 including shipping) so I ordered both the1.52 and 1.82m version.

Let me know how the 1.82 is compared to the 1.52 because I’m thinking about getting it. I love the 1.52 so far.

I will report as soon as I've done some initial testing. We are still getting more snow so it will take some time until I can give a comprehensive report.

I LOVE the Tsurinoya "Ares" rod. I put Ares in quotes because it is not printed on the rod but, is included in the description of the rod.

It is a 4'7 XUL, solid carbon 2 piece BFS rod. It has a deep bend and I would not recommend it for trout consistently over 8in. The rod is very fun wth bluegill in open water. I have not had a problem casting 1gr and less with the 16 Aldebaran BFS with Avail 16ALD15R spool. It was like 65 bucks when I bought it a while back.

I chose it over the Dragon because it seemed more like the softer of the two. I was looking into a rod to tackle some small trout with.
