Alphas 2019 vs 2017 model

Post by doomtrprz71 » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:07 pm

Any reason if I get an Alphas reel to spend the extra cash and buy a new 2019 Alphas instead of a used 2017? Is the only difference the color scheme and 2 more CRBB bearings on the 2019 model?

Hmmm...

2017 would have to be an alphas air, right? And 19 would be the CT with the 700 size 30mm spool. Unless I'm missing something I don't know what else they could be. The Air is strictly BFS while the CT is more of an all rounder with a finesse bent.
This is the way.

Maybe they are thinking the 2015 Alphas SV105 vs. the new CT.

Yes the 2015 I apologize, the JP website had it listed for 15-17.

On this German website a guy did compare the two:

https://www.barsch-alarm.de/community/t ... 529/page-2

In a nutshell: the CT was better for lighter lures.

2015 can be had for much cheaper. bearing upgrade the whole thing and you have an 11bb cheap'ish quality reel.

Wow, that's awesome!

I really want one of those. I'm still skeptical of that tiny little spool, but whatever, it's an Alphas.

Dont have Alphas, but Steez CT and spool is amazing! Casts 2,5g and up like a dream!

Well I went with the sv105 instead, I couldn't justify the extra hundred dollars for the ct70 when I doubt I will be throwing anything as light as 4g.

I have the Steez CT and I am throwing it on a NRX852C (rated 1/8-3/8oz), line is 7 pound Sunline. I can easily throw a 3g lure 40 - 50 feet with that set up. To be fair, this is not a very accurate cast, but nevertheless..

I was REALLY impressed with the BFS capabilities of that reel (especially with this non- BFS rod). I heard that the Alpha CT and Steez CT's performance are fairly close. If I bought another one I would try the Alpha CT for 260 USD (I paid 530 USD for the Steez).

Awesome spool with a decent amount of line capacity (run 15# braid with a leader and one can use this reel for almost anything ;) )

Yeh! I have 0.12 mm Spiderwire (it is something 20+ pounds) on it. I use it for finesse and I cast effortlesly crankbaits of 2,5 g... 3,5 g with Teton SUL. Yeh, mine line is far from finesse but with FC leader it works very good with strongly kicking crankbaits. I like to try very challenging casts but not to like to loose crankbaits to trees/bushes...

Mine spool is good after I installed HLC spring to it making it to fixed on BFS casts. Reason for changing spring to very strong one was that inductor in mine spool didn't move smoothly. It was sticky at least with BFS weights. But I can imagine that this spool can be amazing with working inductor! Because of that I ordered RCSB spool. I would also have ordered KTF BFS spool to it if it wasn't practically impossible (No pre-orders, only couple of hours sale time to sold out).

Obviously micro bearings would be good place to improve this reel performance in BFS?

Does anyone have a good schematic for the sv 105? I'm adding bearings and can't find a clear schematic online as a PDF, only grainy JPEG files.

I have a 2019 model on a 6'9 MXF rod that I use for light top waters. It casts a 1/4 oz pop r effortlessly.
