Japan Fishing Show 2020 is coming up on Jan 17, 2020, and should yield some cool new toys I think... does anyone have any predictions about rods, reels, or any other tackle that they expect to see at the show? I have read/heard that it's likely Shimano will put out a new Stradic Ci4+ which would be cool, but I'd love to see an updated Metanium MGL with brass gears and an even sleeker build, though there might be other things they could update like bearings that I am just unaware of.

What do you wanna see?

Id like to see the Steez A get brass gears. Dont care what they end up calling it. Have a 90mm handle on it too.

The Steez CT with aluminum frame and brass gears to cut costs down.

For Shimano, an Aldebaran with 8.5 gears would be sweet. Could do like Daiwa did with the US Steez SV 8.1 and offer the high gear ratio with brass gears instead of aluminum. I got a Stile 100XG and it is PERFECT for Texas Rigs. Pitches nice, palms amazing and has an 8.0 gears as well.

As always, new BFS reels is what I am most looking forward to.

It's not the Stradic Ci4(+) lineage to be white. That was the FL and it remained silver... Here's to 2025, and and here's hoping its white again, and not just any white the FJ white.

I know, I'm just sick of all the red, and a White Stradic CI4 would be sick...

New Metanium reel, new DC 4x8 reel maybe the new Metanium is the new DC 4x8 reel :big grin:
Maybe new DC reels that you can connect your smart phone or PC to and upload custom DC profiles.
That way we could create custom DC profiles and share them with each other.

Nobody is painting!! At least for reasonable prices. Not looking for cheap labor but not looking to buy a Honda reel and get the Bentley price tag for a Ford paint job. ( no offense to those who drive ford )

I think, if you consider the time it takes to completely tear down the reel, clean it thoroughly, mask it off, prime it, finish paint it, and then cure it, you'll see it's a very time consuming process.
Plus they have to remove the masking, reassemble the reel, and lube it.
If there are any defects, they have to repeat the entire painting process.
I would allow a man day if I had to guess at the labor, which is at least $300, plus materials and overhead.
No company would get that kind of money for repainting reels, and there are very few private individuals I can recall who would have done it for less.
Even if you strip it down and reassemble it yourself, and only send in the parts that need to be painted, it's still a very time consuming and costly process.
There used to be people here who repainted their own reels, but I haven't seen any examples recently.

Oooh, I just had a thought. What if Shimano released a new Metanium MGL with brass gears, but dark gunmetal instead of silver?? Could be reeeeeally hot, if it looks like a cross between the Met MGL and Bantam with the color of the SLX XT.

Ooooh, with a drag clicker!!
